Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Fishing with my dad out in the boat somewhere out in the swamp. I was about 12.

I asked my dad if I could have one of his beers, he chuckled and to my absolute shock, said sure - have one. Nastiest thing my 12-year old taste buds had ever encountered. Spit it out immediately.
(Same thing happened during that same time frame with some Red Man).

Ol' dad was much smarter than I thought I was.

However.........4-5 years later my taste buds had adapted, and that same PBR tasted MUCH MUCH better.

1965 or so. Dad brought home a transistor radio which fit in the palm of the hand. Literally, 3/4" thick, 2"x 3" tall by wide. I was 14 or so and lay in bed upstairs listing to R&R and drank a couple of those. I might have hit his stash of VOB, Smirnoff and some other witch's brews too.

One of my pals whose dad was a doctor and threw big parties in his Catahoula-style basement bar was getting ready for a shindig and had numerous cases of Bud stacked up on the porch waiting to be carried down to the basement. Buddy and I stole a 6 pack and took it down to the creek and drank three hot ones each. It was late July and probably in the mid-90s, the beer was hot, and we both threw up. Laid around by the creek getting over that until riding the bike home for supper. First beer, first vomit, first hangover all in one day.

IT WAS A GLORIOUS TIME.

ABV beer available at the time in SC, which was Ice House at 5.5%.

Drank it in friend's older sister's car parked under a vacant beach house in Garden City, circa 1990. Was just enough to get a decent buzz. Thought I was plastered at the time though. She was a coed at Converse at the time (freshman) with a fake ID. My friend and I were in the back seat, and they grabbed the beer for us at some gas station.
