Standing/Sitting Etiquette at Memorial Stadium

Oct 13, 2014, 5:35 PM

I was at my ticketed position in the upper deck Saturday and during the first quarter I heard someone shouting "Hey, Hey!" behind me. I turned around to find an older woman two rows up speaking to me. She said, "Sit down. I can't see." I was a little surprised to be told to sit so early in the game and without so much as a "please" or "would you" thrown in. I turned back toward the field and continued to stand. I collected my thoughts and a few minutes later offered to trade seats with the woman so she could see better and I wouldn't have to sit. She said "No, I'll just have the police move you in a minute." What should I have done next: Sit down immediately? Stand for the rest of the game in spite? Punch her in the throat? No pigs

You paid for the seat so stand up. ..........

Oct 13, 2014, 6:09 PM

If they have a problem with it then stay home and watch!

I stand 90% of the game. And there's a older grad (I'd guess his 80's) who gets on peoples #### if not standing and cheering.

I try to respect the older persons behind me

Oct 13, 2014, 6:38 PM

my general rule of thumb: If there's an elderly person behind me, I stay out of their way as best I can, assuming I can see in front of me. Trade seats if necessary (esp if they are short). One day I expect to be old too. Plus, you basically get your cue from the rest of the fans around you. Don't be the only guy standing amongst 100 others - you're the dyckhead if that's the case. Were you "that guy"? Most people who go to games "know" the proper times to stand (kickoffs, 3rd down, close game moments, goal line, etc). Not watching the band play, or TV timeouts.

And some don't understand that you can make as much noise seated as you can standing. I know I can. Try that if the people behind you are bothered. Standing doesn't make you a better fan, and sitting doesn't make you a worse one.

You're so logic.***

It's a Catch-22...............

Oct 13, 2014, 6:51 PM [ in reply to I try to respect the older persons behind me ]

and I see your point. But home or away I stand the majority of the time.

I love my seats at Clemson. I have a wall behind me. ;)

I'll never tell anyone in front of me to sit down! Oh well enough on this subject. It's a conundrum.

It's all about common sense and respect for others.

Oct 13, 2014, 7:19 PM [ in reply to I try to respect the older persons behind me ]

If you insist on standing the entire game, and people behind you can't see, then you are probably being very self-centered and showing a complete lack of respect for those around you. On the other hand, if people expect you to never stand up, then they are being equally disrespectful and self-centered. There is a middle ground here, dictated by game situations; some games may indeed call for standing almost the whole time; some not so much. If you refuse to get to that middle ground, you've got a problem.

were u standing b/c those in front were standing?

Oct 13, 2014, 7:41 PM

Or r u just a stander?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is the key bit of info.

Oct 14, 2014, 12:17 AM

If those in front of you are standing, stand. If somebody ask you to sit, use whatever words needed to explain them what is going on. If nobody else is standing and asked to sit down, maybe sit down.

Oct 14, 2014, 8:33 AM

If you canot spare an extra $10,000 per year to IPTAY, why even go to the games?

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This'll tell ya just how smart them upper deckers are

Oct 14, 2014, 8:35 AM

WHEN YOU STAND UP THERE DON'T YOU ACTUALLY MAKE YOUR SEATS WORSE BECAUSE YOU ARE EVEN FARTHER FROM THE GAME?????

Everyone needs janitors. Let's don't forget that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But a janitor makes $7.50 per hour and up. At 40 hrs/wk

Oct 14, 2014, 8:44 AM

that is at least $15000 per year. $10,000 to IPTAY then work on paying for food, gas, housing, etc with the leftover $5k. YOU CAN GET FREE PHONES FROM THE GOVERNMENT.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So this calebg61 guy is lazy?

Oct 14, 2014, 8:53 AM

I mean, obviously not too lazy to stand up so long he pizzes off an old lady, but too lazy to work hard enough to get real seats.

Ok figured as much. All those UD people are the same.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Does this apply to UD people at Carter Finley, as well?***

Technical College so they can work hard and learn a skill that they can apply to a job which makes them money and affords them the opportunity to pay IPTAY Heisman level dues and get good seats.

earn at least $15k/year and therefore CAN afford seats.

Kids these days...they probably blow their money on iphones and drugs and video games instead of INVESTING it in parking and good seats for years to come.

Lakebum is right. Bring back the good ol days.
