Spector's personal foul was just a bad as DJ's mistake

You have them stopped on 3rd down and you hit a guy super late because of poor awareness. They are gift wrapped a 1st down and then go on to get a TD on the drive. We gave them a bunch of 3rd down conversion on penalties. 10-17 on 3rd down for the game by Pitt just ain't going to get it done. There is enough blame to go around on Offense as well as Defense.

Wasn't a super late hit. It's one of those timing things that he had launched for the shoulder take down as the ball was lost. Newton's laws pretty much dictated he wasn't going to stop once his legs left the ground. It was a wonderful hit if the guy had caught the ball. Sadly it was a penalty.

Wasn’t very late. He hit him before the whistle blew. He didn’t see the dropped ball due to his head being down which is another issue of its own.

I think he was incredibly frustrated and made a point to hit him hard ...he knew the ball was out and had to side step a guy to go out of his way 2 sec after the paly to hit him.......it was extremely late....I think it's the most obvious late/dirty hit I've seen us make since dabo has been here.

Dude…you have lost your mind if you don’t think it was a SUPER LATE…hit…that was the problem…I don’t blame him much as the only way to even remotely explain it was that he actually thought he guy had the ball..:but it was as a late a hit as could ever happen Iah!!! At least 2-3 count!!! It was obvious that he was oblivious to the actual play!!!

Dear TigerInCarolina,

I admire your bravery and class by defending B.Spector in that late Q2 personal foul penalty on 3rd and long for Pitt.

But sorry, this was a very very late hit that a senior defender has GOT to have the self-control to not do.

The fact that B.Spector's terribly stupid penalty was the key mistake that led to a Pitt TD only punctuates that inexcusably stupid penalty.

It was really late. I know if it was our guy getting hit like that I’d want to see a flag. But at least they got the targeting call right. Seems like we get a lot of targeting calls on the field that get reversed by replay. Anyone else think targeting could have been called on that hit on TP7???

Personally I thought they could have ejected both of those Pitt guys as they both led with the head and hit TP in the head. Obviously he ducked down into the hit but if the situation was reversed and one of those guys was Skalski he would have been ejected out of habit.
