Somehow I feel the Brighest Days of Coot Football are Over..

Oct 1, 2013, 1:38 AM

I really do..I can just sense it for some reason..maybe because I've been around this rivalry since 1957 (even written about it & interviewed people like Frank Howard, Bob Jones, Banks McFadden, Bob Bradley..plus numerous players..and even slept on a cot in the old field house night before a game to observe the players interaction & preparation that night & next morning) while a student newspaper sports writer for The TIGER.

Saying..I see a clink in the SC Football armor from many sides in 2013..and IF the Clemson Team can do what they're capable of doing..Nov 30 at Willie B will be a night to remember in a great way for ClemsonNation..and fact is we've had more wins there than you'd imagine..and oh how sweet they've been! Does 63-17 mean anything?

I'm calling it a Win..not in a mean-spirited way..but in that I sensed the same feeling when I attended the last Big Thursday Game in 1959..the last time in 60+ years the Tigers "had" to play every game in Columbia..and the Coots had to come to our house for the first time since 1896..and that same excitement of the 50's is in my blood again..even at 72.

Watch out Tiger Fans..be positive & uplifting to yourselves and to the Team..for Time will tell in about 60 days.

Go#3TiGERs...keep playing each game one at a time & play for each other..hence TEAM!

And so does spurlid - why he is drinking and so envious of Dabo, so uplifting and dynamic leader of a fast rising team, while his is slowly but surely on the decline. Tiger on '66! Remember Jimmy Addison "The Needle"? He was a early slimmer model of Manziel stuck on a 3 yards and cloud of dust team. He would have been awesome on modern spread offenses.

I know it's too early for recruiting ranking to mean much...

Oct 1, 2013, 7:05 AM

but their ranking was around 30 the last time I looked. It's possible for a team to be loaded or that the players who are the best fits for their system aren't highly ranked but it's more likely you're correct, bill.

I got the same feeling when I saw the recruiting rankings though I think their 'normal,' has is different now than it was 20 years ago.

They rank 13/14 in the SEC right now, only beating Miss St. By now, most of the 14 class is already decided and schools know where they stand with kids. Scar lost 2 4* last week and may lose.

Their class WILL NOT finish in the top 25.

Wasn't even thinking about drinking but know Steve's age is

Oct 1, 2013, 10:28 AM

an issue for him and SC football program..as is mine at 72..since at his age I was still going pretty strong but looking ahead out of one eye to the reality of having a secure, slower & safe pace in place..

and that's what Spur is doing IMO. Hey, he's beat Clemson 4 of 5 (vs Dabo; don't now his overall record with us) and that game has gotten old..and he knows he's not going to win the SEC outright..and fighting just to win the East.

So, along with that info and that their recruiting isn't as strong IMO as Clemson's..I see a leveling out situation at SC while the TiGERs are surging upward in many ways.

Every Dog has its day..and it appears it's Clemson's (Finally).

Go#3TiGERs!

Spurrier is 3 years old that D. Ford. Put that into perspective.
