You guessed it. If they'd have gone through it, would have had to renegotiate the UNION contracts and they would have gotten much much less. There lays the problem. Can't have one of your biggest donor hurt. So, we have to take care of them. Which was done.

Romney stated he wanted the automakers to go through bankrupty proseedings like dozens of other companies have done,and that the gov't. should guarantee them loans after they emerged. Obama lied when he said Romney wanted financing to come from the private sector. Obama as usual was full of it.


Here's what Romney wrote in the NYTimes:

The American auto industry is vital to our national interest as an employer and as a hub for manufacturing. A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs. It would permit the companies to shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs. The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk.

Do liberals really not understand the concept of managed bankruptcy? Donald Trump has gone thru bankruptcy 4x, and he's doing ok. Obama's auto bailout sure helped Chrysler though.
