Via Sports-Reference.com

SRS (simple rating system) for their career at respective school:

Clemson Rick Barnes 14.50
Clemson Oliver Purnell 13.15
Clemson Brad Brownell 11.43
Clemson Cliff Ellis 10.57

Texas Rick Barnes 16.02
Tenn Rick Barnes 16.76

DePaul Oliver Purnell 1.44

Not all changes are better, but one more change for Rick now that UNC and Duke have new coaches?

Why did Rick become more successful when he departed?

I bet it was because my High school coach followed him to Texas.

Does it matter?

overall record = 1403-1353-2, a .509 winning percentage (not even in the top 50)
acc tourney record = 23-70, a .247 winning percentage
USuCk has played for the ACC title 3x and won it 1x. We have only played for it 2x
Even FSU, ND, Miami and VT have won it. and they are not bball powerhouses.
until recently, we had lost over 50x IN A ROW at chapel hill (that is still shocking to see)

IMO, its not a BB problem. its a commitment to basketball problem. its also not a "this state doesnt care about basketball" problem. if we wanted to be better, we would commit and be better at it.

Right-we'd get a better coach if we were all in on basketball, but instead we have BB and mediocracy. Maybe that's good enough for some.

Brownell would have been no better than Shyatt if he had to play the ACC of that time. He benefits greatly since the ACC is a mere shadow of the greatness it had back in the day.

Brad has the all time record for losses as a Clemson Coach!***
