Running up the score?

Oct 13, 2022, 8:09 AM

I really try not to sound like a homer but on the podcast this week we discussed the topic of running up the score. Anyone ever hear a reporter ask another coach (saban, harbaugh, day) why they scored there last touchdown? I feel like I never have. I feel like dabo gets that question more than anyone. Just don’t get it. Podcast is out late this week but give it a listen to get ready for FSU. Go tigers! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tiger-brothers-podcast/id1585046002?i=1000582524696

It was 24-3 with 5 min left, not 56-3 in the waning

seconds. Heck, we started that drive with half the 4th quarter left. That drive salted the game away more than rubbed salt on the wound.

And given the way the offense had looked for most of the game I'm sure Dabo felt like they needed to get some more live reps in before heading down to Tallahassee to play FSU in a game that can virtually lock up the division.

From the BC perspective, the sole focus was clearly just the end of our game while Dabo was likely calling the end of that game with the next game already in mind. Some teams just have bigger fish to fry.

Dabo should get the benefit of the doubt. He plays more players than most coaches. He could have easily scored one more touchdown in the National Championship game against Bama.

Level should be punched in the genetalia or breasts until they vomit if they ever utter anything related to "Running Up The Score"

Let them go back to playing unscored rec sports or attending gender fluid rights sit ins.

We started that drive at our 10 correct? 6+ minutes remaining and a 21 point lead. Man, things can swing fast even then. 21 isn't safe. 22+ is.

While that might make some feel good, 21 points is possible in that short window. Houston did something similar earlier this year, scoring 14 points with less than 3 left to play. They were down 19 but still nearly scored 21 points (20 due to a missed PAT) in the final 7 or so minutes. One was a kick off, two other offensive touchdowns. Don't forget App state scoring 40 in the 4th - 3 TDs in the last 4 minutes. That was just this year, not even looking historically for 21 point comebacks in the 4th. It is unlikely but it does happen. Not sure there was ever a 28 point comeback in such a small window.

Brought that up as well. Not sure how many times this year I’ve saw teams give up 16-20 points in a matter of minutes

Woody scored late with Oh St to beat Mich. He went for 2 which he didn't need and was asked why he did. He said because he couldn't go for 3.
