Reporter needed to take assignment on football schedule

Jul 23, 2012, 7:04 PM

Clemson needs David Hood or Mickey Plyler to challenge TD Phillips on the actual revenue difference on playing a SC State type teams at home over two years vs. an Oklahoma State home and home. On a two year projection, Clemson loses on ticket revenue after splits, gains on concessions but has greater game day expenses, and has one year of extra travel expenses vs. SC State's travel and our overnight in Anderson.
This type math made since back when this started, but TV has changed the whole package. Ole Miss would be televised because all SEC games are televised. Oklahoma state would likely be the regional if not early national. What is our cut of that? Furman, PC, SC State, ...No.
I don't think it's revenue. I think we are afraid to lose. We just don't want to compete on the field, we just want votes to get to a playoff. Backdoor, not competition.
If the actual dollars are significantly different, ok, but show them.

You also have to take into account that we pay FCS teams to play us

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Sorry guy, but Clemson and USC are "urged"

to schedule the smaller state schools to help fund their athletic budgets.

As much as I enjoy a good OOC, that is why we do it and it's not going to change.

Don't know why we are playing Ball State or Kent.

We will be fine with a conference schedule and a SEC

opponent(USC) on our schedule every year.

years nets 0 dollars. Everyone has to get over this schedule thing and move on because its not going to change. It will not be long before the SEC and Big Ten are playing 9 games like the PAC10,ACC and B12 so there will be no one to schedule anyway but Clemson will be one of a handful of schools lucky enough to still have a
major opponent from another conference in the Gamecocks.

We just need to play more neutral site games

Playing a one-off game in Atlanta, Charlotte and a few other places depending on the opponent can be somewhat of a compromise.

I think the ACC in general needs to do that especially considering some of the locations in "ACC country" (ATL, CLT, DC, NYC, etc.) It could really help the conference's exposure with some big matchups along the east coast.
