Recruit Texas

I think now would be an ideal time for Clemson to start trying to make a stronger push for recruiting in Texas. My reasons. 1. UT is still the place to play in Texas and they've been weak for a while now. 2. Baylor has been good lately, but nobody in Texas grows up dreaming of playing for Baylor 3. TCU, same as above. 4. Texas A&M. Rabid fan base, but they are 3rd or 4th fiddle in the SEC 5. OU, they become the default school for a great many Texas athletes, but it's a choice made from necessity. 6. BV started at K-State. He's got to know a thing or 2 or 3 about recruiting Big 12 country. 7. Clemson has as high a profile as they've ever had, use it. 8. Clemson has pounded the Big12 champion 2 years in a row. 9. There is some crazy HS football played in Texas. 5 miles from me in Southkake, they put 20,000 fans in their stadium every single home game and that's not unusual. There are half a dozen HS in Dallas just like that. A couple years ago Trinity HS had an O-line that AVERAGED 305lbs.
I think Big 12 country is loaded with talent and ripe for the picking.

Texas kids want to go to Texas schools for the most part. Im not saying you cant spot recruit a kid, but I don't think you waste the time to target an overall area, when we have a good base with SC, NC, and GA to pull from locally. We have built our success on that, those 3 states will produce enough talent year in and year out to build a foundation upon. Texas has so many programs that come into it and get the leftovers from Austin, A&M, Oklahoma, and the other Texas schools.
Again, spot recruit specific kids who have shown an interest and Im all for it.

It would be tough to get them here for unofficials and junior days, generally speaking. That's how favorites develop and official visits are picked. You run the risk of spending a lot of time and resources recruiting an area were more times than not you are playing from behind. Why not just mine SC, NC, GA and FL and take shots elsewhere when a prospect shows interest.

As our brand rises...that will happen.

I live in Mansfield TX, and have been wearing Clemson hats and shirts for the 10 years that I've lived here. And for the most part, only a few people have commented on them. However, after last years beat down of Oklahoma, I've been getting more and more people stopping me to tell me that they are pulling for Clemson. So, while their program is rebuilding, a lot of them are noticing and pulling for us. As our brand rises in this area, it will make it possible to start pulling good players out of this area. BTW, the Metroplex (DFW) has around 7.6 million people living here. SC by comparison has 4.2 million in the entire state. So it's good to get positive notoriety in such a large talent pool. It will pay dividends in the near future. Just watch.

two of the top guys in Kansas who came to Clemson and we were down to the final call for the top player in New Jersey. As long as BV is around, we will continue to expand our national recruiting footprint and I believe that we will get some texas guys with that. Chalk is a Texas boy isn't he? He does have family pedigree here so it's not like we just went out and took a texas kid, but I think we get some high profile texas recruits in the next 5 years if we sustain our success.

state, and the ones that leave often go to LSU, Oklahoma, etc. There are a bunch of good options right there close by. I'm not saying we can't grab the occasional recruit from Texas, but i don't think making a strong recruiting push in Texas would be a good use of our resources.
