Honesty, where do you think the coots should be ranked?

Oct 8, 2012, 4:29 PM

Lets see how many mature posters are really on this board.

They should be top 10. Am exact ranking is trivial for now. It will all play out and will see what they really are soon.

#5. Here's my reasoning...

Oct 8, 2012, 4:40 PM [ in reply to Re: Honesty, where do you think the coots should be ranked? ]

1st off polls should not come out until December when we look back at the teams... but...

The win against UGA was a great home win, but you were supposed to win that game, honestly. Now, nobody expected a blowout but that's what happens with great early momentum and pass rusher like Clowney when you put a team in that position.

1. Bama
2. Oregon
These are just virtue of the preseason poll system which I don't like. But it's hard to argue against at this point.

3. Florida - Winning AT Texas AM and AT Tennessee are 2 really tough road games. Doesn't really compare to Vandy and UK on the road IMO. Road games are just tough to win and especially those environments.

4. WVU - winning on the road against Texas gives them the nod AT THIS POINT.

5. SCar - IF THEY WIN against AT LSU and AT UF, they should be #1. No questions asked. Would be the most impressive schedule of any team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No way they beat LSU and FL. back-to-back on the road

And there is a decent chance they lose to Tenn. and Ark. as well. The UGA game was a perfect storm.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We'll they've only played 2 top 25 teams

Oct 8, 2012, 4:54 PM

but the reason I think they are the real deal is because they are consistent, especially with their offense, the lowest amount of points theyve scored all season is 42. highest is 63. Averaging 52.3 points per game and with a pretty solid defense (especially for the offense they run) allowing 20 points per game, (shutting out Arizona who put up 48 against Stanford)

Another thing: Its not like Oregon doesnt play anybody all hear, so far they've played a #22 and a #23, and if the rankings were to stay as they are, they still have a #11, #17, and #10 left on the schedule, with two of those away from home.

Putting on the glasses I use to objectively bet on college football...

They've got a quality defense and an offense that can chew clock, chew yards and score more than their defense is going to allow.

After looking over the college landscape, I'm hard pressed to find ten teams with better balance on offense, defense, special teams and coaching.

They're a top ten team at this point.

Well said. The defense gives the offense the ability to slack off if need be. The offense isn't great...but gets them on the board and out front in the first half. Then the D takes over and the offense just runs it a chews up clock time.

Did you see where they only had one pass the entire 2nd half against Georgia? One pass. The rest was running game.

I would say #3 or #4. Personally I would put them #4 with West Virginia ahead of them but I have no problem with it the other way.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Honestly? Somewhere in the 6-8 range

Oct 8, 2012, 5:03 PM

I thought Georgia was way overrated going into this past weekend. But that's always the funny thing about pre-season rankings, especially given the media's love for the SEC. Rather than acknowledging SC deserved to be the #6 team, and admitting that UGA was vastly overrated at #5, SC is getting credit for beating a #5 ranked team. #4 LSU was overrated, as was #3 FSU. There was a lot of shaky real estate ahead of them in the rankings, and I'll give SC credit for taking care of business while the teams in front of them lost.

This is shaping up to be a very strange year of college football. It reminds me of 2007. So I actually have no issue with the Gamecocks being ranked #3 since it's kind of out of default. In any given year, this SC team might be in the 7-10 range of the rankings, but with so many of the teams ahead of them proving to be pretenders they kinda had to move up. There are 2 teams in the nation that appear to be way better than everyone else, and that's Alabama and Oregon. Behind them, it looks to be anyone's game to see who wants to be #3.

Oct 8, 2012, 5:33 PM

DOn't know and don't really care.

We;ll know more as we see how the UGA win looks going forward and how they handle themselves on the road against some strong teams.

I'm in the "Never want them to win another game" camp, but I'm also honest enough to say that they got a dang good win Saturday night and deserve the praise they are getting for it.

I don't believe 3. Based on their schedule so far..

Oct 8, 2012, 5:43 PM

we all knew that UGA was over rated. They have beeb behind against Vandy and Kentucky. If Kentucky had clock managment skill, I believe that game goes to them. Coots are not a top 5 program. Maybe based off of their wins.... they should be at 8. LSU will hopefully put them in their place. But it's ok... we all know the higher you get, the harder the fall is.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

hate to say it, but Bama is the only team I'd put in front

Oct 8, 2012, 5:49 PM

of them. I hate the coots, more than you know, but they are a dangerous football team.

I still don't think they will win it all. Quite frankly, I thought I would never, ever see them winning the SEC East, much less the SEC. Unfortunately, if they won the SEC and beat then beat Bama, I don't see anyone else out there that could beat them. Maybe Oregon, but I'd hate to depend on a pac 10 team to knock them out of a title. LSU needs to step up and nip this in the bud.
