The Braves used up a lot of energy catching the Mets. Let's

hope there's something left for the stretch run. I'm old enough to remember all too well how fast it can go the other way. Back when the Bravos were in the NL West, they had a 9 game lead on the Padres, a 12.5 game lead on the Dodgers, who were in 3rd place. The Braves proceeded to lose 19 of 21 games, and the Dodgers were in 1st place. This was in 1982.

(The Braves did come back to make the playoffs that year, but were swept by the Cardinals in the 1st round.)

The 80s Braves were mostly bad; '82 was an exception

The Braves opened the '82 season with 13 straight wins, still tied for the MLB record, but like you said, they struggled to win the division. They had some good players like Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Chris Chambliss, Phil Niekro (Knucksie), Gene Garber, etc. I think that was right after Bobby Cox got fired (of course rehired later) and Joe Torre managed.

And, Joe Torre got fired from Atlanta as well. Wonder what

I was thinking (must have been during the last Braves and Cardinals series) about how many times over the years it was the Cardinals that knocked the Braves out of the playoffs. It has gone both ways and some how they seem to meet each other in the playoffs.

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?

It is the time of year where the Braves are getting hot and whoever else has been leading the National League East Division implodes.

The Braves dropped a game to the Marines 3-1 last night, and are a half game back of the Mets. The Braves need a win and a Mets loss to retake the division lead.
