What is the problem with Clemson Basketball? Is it a recruiting problem?

A player development problem? Are we too reliant on the portal because of an inability to identify, recruit and develop talent from the High School ranks?
Or is it simply an allocation of resources problem?

Coaching problem. Look at the late game decisions. Look at the motivation and fire. Or lack of. He’s not good at X’s and O’s or motivation. I’d hate to see our record in games decided by less than 5 pts under cbb. I bet we win less than 25% that come down to coaching.

CBB doesn’t seem to have any obvious coaching philosophy to offer his players. Freelance on O until they jack it up and then refuse to go after the rebound…. Just jog back on D and let the other team drive to the hoop or shoot an uncontested shot in the face. Lazy passes, no screens, no posting up, no cuts to the hoop, no rebounds or 2nd shots. I suspect that there’s very little sweating going on at practice.

I 100% agree that if that team depended on coaching to win, we would be in last place. Our BB team plays as well as a team with talent would play in a pickup game with most of the talent on one of the teams that hasn't been coached...

Football school. There are basketball schools around the country where the best players go. Best players don't want to be second fiddle to another sport

Alabama seems to have a good basketball program where guys don't care that football is also good.
Miami and Texas, two schools that sure would love to call themselves "football schools", made the Final Four last year.
This excuse is empty.

But we have two huge problems, and Brad Brownell is one of them, the other I believe comes from crappy ball movement, or a me me me issue!!!

Oooooops, was reading a post from like 2014 ….
Problem is Brownell coaches a midwestern Church League type style that is limited at this level. Notice how our players get worse as the season goes on ? They get frustrated and just kinda go through the motions
Need new coaching blood for sure. Someone like the Memphis Coach ad that GT coach is good ! Bet GT is a MAJOR force next year.

I believe that if you take a look at the talent on that team, I doubt you would think that it's the talent on that team that is creating their problems...

You would think a competent coach could fix the defensive problem and adjust the offense if his players just can't shoot.

Brad has an average 35.75 recruiting class over these past four years.
We are roughly 40th in program budget in the nation, and Brad is roughly the 40th highest paid coach in the game over that span.
We average a 75th NET ranking at season's end.
Development and game coaching seem to be the difference between the resources and talent allocated and the results.

It's a head coaching problem.
I remember Rick Barnes winning with worse players, less resources, and worse facilities.
