Walker Golf course question

I havent played it in years. It just seems the big college events in the area use the other courses. was Walker not designed to accomodate these events or why is that?

I talked to people this past weekend and they said the walker course is in very bad shape. Fir what it’s worth.

I do not know who you talked to but they have no idea what they are talking about. The Walker course is always in excellent condition and the maintenance staff there is second to none. For what it's worth, this time of year is always the worst time a year aesthetically to look at a warm season grass golf course. The Bermuda grass fairways and rough are just emerging out of dormancy and look spotty, spring weeds start to emerge (although Walker is really clean, but you can't get them all), and the Zoysia putting surfaces are also coming out of dormancy.

Yeap i have Zoysia grass for my Lawson and there are a few onions in it a few spring weeds that the pre-emergent did not stop. Clemson is agricultural school that teaches Horticulture. I took a landscape design course many years ago as an elective and that was the hardest elective I had in college but it was interesting.

I played it about a month ago for the first and only time and I thought it was in great shape. I don't have a comparison to what it has been like in the past, but it is in better shape than 90% of the courses that I have played in the same price range.

Very few courses are designed with particular playing events in mind. They are generally designed for use by the largest number of players likely to pay the green fees (or dues at a private club) and support the facility financially. College tournaments on a course do not do that. Of course that does not mean a course could not be designed to do both, but at the time the Walker Course was built I do not think that was a major part of the planning process. It was always intended to be a daily fee course that produced revenue, as well as have a limited membership.
