To Coach Brownell:

Why in the heck don’t ALL of your players have their hands on their hearts during the playing of the National Anthem? I heard that Coach Bakich told the baseball team that they WILL be standing with their hands over their hearts for the National Anthem. Disrespecting our flag is not an option for the baseball team. Coach Brownell, you should do the same!

He wont see this. Contact him directly. If we aren't doing that during the anthem we should be.

I’m not Brownell but I don’t think the hand over the heart is a prerequisite while standing. It’s up to the individual. The omission of the hand over heart is certainly not disrespectful imho.

Momartiger, you don’t know what you are talking about

You have a right to your humble opinion, but you are wrong momartiger. It’s just another example of the fiber of America being removed one thread at a time. Read up on it. The etiquette has not changed.

https://starspangledflags.com/national-anthem-etiquette-what-you-should-know/

Proper Anthem Protocol Order for Civilians

Stand
Face the Flag
Remove Your Hat
Place Right Hand Over Your Heart

If you are current or ex-military, you offer a military salute.

Jim, one correction on the article. Military personnel in uniform indoors stand at attention but do not salute during the National Anthem.

It always was a sign, and it still is - hand over heart. Some liberals!!!!

It's the National Anthem, not the Pledge of Allegiance

I said National Anthem in my post, did you read it?

This has been going on even before then this year. I feel like Brad has an approach of “you can be who you are, and believe what you believe” as far as their personality and religion is.

Do NOT quote me on that though. This is just what I am assuming.

It’s these kind of sarcastic replies when someone is called a liberal. I would expect more respect from a Clemson Tiger Fan.

I recall the placing your hand over your heart ruling

Jan 25, 2023, 4:17 PM

Was amended in the early 40s . Gentlemen were encouraged to salute (if military) and women were to place their hand over their heart. It’s been a long time and that suggestion may have changed.

There are many of us here that have friends we buried under the flag. If you don’t want to put your hand over your heart I guess that’s your choice and that’s what we fought to defend, your ability to make a choice. I just ask for one thing. Before your next event that plays the National Anthem go visit a Military Cemetery and take a moment to let it sink in. While you’re there talk to a surviving family member for a few moments about their loved one they are visiting that day. Like I said, we served so you could make that choice just choose wisely.

They did visit a military cemetery at Normandy. I with my own two eyes watched a very respectful and appreciative group of young men for those who fought the ultimate fight. Again, I will say it’s not disrespectful to not place one’s hand over the heart for the anthem. I personally only do it for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Hand on the heart is for the pledge to allegiance. It is not a must for the anthem and I don’t do it myself. Stop looking for an issue where there is none.

I admire Coach Bakich for making it a rule to place your hand over your heart during the presentation of our Flag and during the National Anthem. I believe all Clemson athletes should be required to do the same as the baseball team.

Think about the amount of American Blood spilled at the battles of IWO JIMA, Okinawa as well as many other battles by American Soldiers. Thinking of these battles and those who are still there buried under a white cross I would think people would want to Honor our fallen Soldiers, our NA our ?? and our Country.

It’s simple rules like honoring our country that we no longer enforce IMO that have lead great ignoring of rules and laws that fans have enabled athletes allowing them gain more and more control while coaches have less authority. I believe It has also lead to the TP, NIL as well as other demands by players.

I included more than I intend. But I do want to say I agree with original post.

How many people who originally supported NIL or the TP still support those two changes in college athletics.

Why is the National Anthem played before basketball games anyway?

Jan 25, 2023, 9:01 PM

Avoids player confusion and snowflakes getting upset about the players. What makes a basketball game so important that the SSB is played?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But what if doing so makes them start losing?

I dont think you want that on your conscience.
