Swinney asked about Fred Davis on call-in show

Aug 30, 2021, 8:43 PM

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked about sophomore cornerback Fred Davis' status for the game Saturday in Charlotte against No. 5 Georgia and said: "Our kind of stance on everybody is that everybody is available. Hopefully -- we'll see what happens on gameday. But as of right now, everybody that is not injured is available."

Davis was charged earlier this month with reckless driving and was booked into the Clemson City Jail after being in a July 22 incident on Highway 123 with his Dodge Charger and a US Postal vehicle.

Swinney said the following earlier this month to start fall camp on Davis: "First of all, thankful, thankful to the good Lord. And I’m thankful to all those people, the responders, that were on the scene there, that what was an incredibly serious situation didn’t become tragic. And so I’m really thankful to the good Lord and all the people who were there.

"And as far as Fred (Davis) goes, this is not of his character. I’m just incredibly disappointed in his decision-making. It’s just that simple. Just a poor decision. He’s going to deal with lots of consequences for that. You know, certainly, we’ve got policies in place from a university standpoint when it comes to misdemeanor charges and things like that. We will handle his discipline from an internal standpoint.

"But he’ll have consequences from this for a long, long, long time. And, again, that comes with consequences for our decisions. So it’s not something that is prolonged. He’s had immediate consequences from the moment that this happened, and his team discipline has already started and will continue today."

I suspect Davis is suspended but Dabo

doesn't want to let UGA know he won't be playing.

Dabo has this covered, he has been shown to be a good judge of character & a good standard bearer who holds his players accountable.

Anyone that thinks Fred Davis will step on the field against UGA in anything other than pre-game warmups is crazy. This is all about Dabo just not confirming he's out for UGA to know for sure.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So he's on the depth chart as #1 to fool Ugay?***

I doubt anyone would miss any game time due to a traffic offense unless it was dui. Some of these comments sound as if there are some who wants him this young man to get the death penalty

Dabo did not confirm or deny Davis would play. No need to tip off Kirby either way. Some of y’all are so thick…

Dabo "SAID", everybody is available. Hopefully -- we'll see what happens on gameday. But as of right now, everybody that is not injured is available!!!!

Fred Davis is also listed at the top of the CB depth chart!!!

I think Dabo can do his job better than any of us can do his job.

Yes but being available and actually taking a snap is 2 totally different things.

Seems like the Dabo move would be to suspend him and that’s still my guess how it plays out. Smart not giving away any info that he doesn’t have to.

I say we don’t suspend him, but I have to cover 3 points, Dabo doesn’t :)

Yep, me too, and regardless of what got bentup, he was only charged with a misdemeanor, and there is a standard punishment of the rules for misdemeanor charges.

Re: Definitely In-house Treatment ---

Aug 30, 2021, 11:07 PM

Fred Davis could indeed play but may not start.

Fred Davis could be definitely doing some special services set up by Swinney to make amends for what he did.

Fred Davis could just get to play 4 games or less of his choosing......then do the special tasks required to make amends for the accident.

Fred Davis may not even play at all this season.

Whatever the case ALL Tigers need to be engaged into this game and ready to go into this game to perform and think at a high level.
