Sick and tired of hearing about AU

Jul 28, 2012, 4:30 PM

and how they pay their players.

Cam Newton and the daddy defense.

Rueben Foster gets paid more by AU than Bama is willing to pay.

WHY? is this institution above the rule of the NCAA?

How many other SEC programs pay their players with no recourse from the NCAA?

Does the NCAA turn a blind eye to every SEC program?

This pay-for-play nonsense is going to have to stop, or the SEC will always have an unfair advantage.

Just imagine, if ANY other school, other than an SEC school, even had a mild accusation of pay-for-play, that school would have NCAA investigators so far up their butt, that it would be easier to pull them out topside.

If they can get away with paying players, it chills me to think of the academic impropriety, or the "fringe" benefits involved.

I am so proud of Clemson and Dabo. They do it the right way and we still pull down a top recruiting class every year. It just goes to show how special Clemson really is, and how the recruits can see it too.

let's quit all the crap about guys being paid

have you not seen every other team accusing us?

Jul 28, 2012, 4:38 PM

I mean, every time every school gets a big recruit, the fans of the schools that lost out accuse whoever got the guy of paying him. It's just stupid.

There is a difference between wildly spurious accusations from a bunch of jealous coots, and legitimate and corroborated stories of AU paying players.

Don't confuse the two.

So how did you turn these stories of just AU into the entire SEC? Do you have stories on all the other SEC schools too?

BUT I did hear one accuse $EC schools.

Just last year, 4 former Auburn players told Sports

Jul 28, 2012, 5:12 PM [ in reply to let's quit all the crap about guys being paid ]

Illustrated how they'd been paid while at AU....and then, a MissSt asst coach told the NCAA that Cam Newton's father told him it would cost $200,000.00 for him to play in Starkville (having been to Starkville, personally, I think he was lowballing) and then suddenly Cam changes his mind and goes to Auburn after calling the MissSt asst coach up and telling him "the money was just too much"............Don't ask me why the NCAA couldn't find the payment(s).......but we know that not long after Cam signed on at Auburn, a $250,000.00 new roof was put on Newton's father's church in Atlanta.

We know that an Alabama booster paid Albert Means HS coach over $100,000.00 none of which got to Means family nor an asst HS coach who eventually blew the whistle. The NCAA did catch that---and it went to criminal trial too. Bama got some extra years probation tacked on to the probation they were already on.

We know that players from Arkansas were paid by a Dallas trucking firm for months for jobs they NEVER showed up at....an ex-wife of the firm's owner's son let that pig out of the bag. NCAA did sanction Arky---but trucking firm owner---who were some of Frank Broyles best friends, weren't even banned by Ark.

There've been largely unsubstantiated stories coming out of the Rock Hill area for years now about usuck booster involvement in recruiting which involved giving parents jobs----I have no clue as to why the NCAA didn't follow up on allegations the last time they were in Columbia, but we do know that a usuck asst AD visited that booster in RH soon after the stories began to circulate.

No....we know for a fact that the SEC pays recruits. Former Auburn players said they were given unmarked debit cards that they could use at 4 specific ATM's. IMO, the SEC's just gotten more sophisticated in how they're doling out the cash, and without subpoena power, there's a limit to how far the NCAA can go.

But the NCAA knows its going on. I'm sure its a frustrating feeling for them knowing they can do little to stop it until far after the fact

and yet, we still manage to recruit pretty well***

the NCAA just looks the other way when it comes to SEC teams

Jul 28, 2012, 5:47 PM [ in reply to Just last year, 4 former Auburn players told Sports ]

it would be very embarrassing for the NCAA if they came down on a conference that won the past 6 national titles in football. It would show their lack of ability to police member institutions. And some of those teams that won national titles were involved with pay for play schemes

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That really should not stop the NCAA***

Yeah, your right my son played for SD Pop Warner last year and they jokingly made interesting comments on the subject, when I was led to ask the question. They played football one at Auburn, one at South-Carolina.Pay-for-Play or maybe other Perks but who am I to judge their innuendo or the expressions of countenance upon their face as they mingled words on the subject.

Re: Re: have you not seen every other team accusing us?

Jul 28, 2012, 5:02 PM

Every fan base thinks they have legitamite and corroborated stories when they lose a player.

The accused always view the accusations as wildly spurious.

Lateek Townsend and Justin Parker on one side, stephon Gilmore and client on the other side.

It's all just stupid, and no fan base is really much different in how they view themselves and their rivals in this regard IMO

Maybe their fanbase is just as skeptical/knowledgable about the $EC corruption and the only way they think another university can get the players we get is pay under the table like they do...

I personally have no idea what goes on. But I do remember a former recruit (can't think of the name or university) saying that the public has no idea what goes on behind doors. He was saying this in a negative context.

Clemson's secret is that they take the good players friends and family along with them. Your 1 and only MNC was tainted by violations that makes the SEC's look like playground infractions.

Yet Usuc has been on probation more and had more overall major infractions yet still hasn't won anything except most.wins.ever. rings
