On behalf of “Gifts for Grayson,” we decided to share Grayson’s story with all of our friends and family on Facebook. We are especially reaching out to those of you who are not familiar with Grayson’s story, and we are hoping ALL of you will share on your page and with others about our upcoming fundraiser. Grayson Owens is an 8 year old boy at our school (Forest Acres Elementary), and in October of 2012, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in the posterior area of his brain. Surgery was quickly scheduled to remove the tumor, and treatment began in hopes of eliminating the cancer. Due to the location of the tumor, he has battled to overcome posterior fossa syndrome. This is a postoperative syndrome which involves mutism or speech disturbances, dysphagia, decreased motor movement, and emotional lability. Grayson has battled endless hospital visits, needles, and chemotherapy treatments. The joy of his childhood has been stripped from him over the last year...and then came the words no parent ever wants to hear. In August of this year, Grayson's cancer returned. This time the cancer is in his brain stem and in the top lining of his brain. The doctors have advised Grayson's parents there is no cure, and to their knowledge, no one has ever survived with these odds. His parents have unshakable faith, and are looking into other treatment options. Needless to say, this family not only has to deal with the emotional toll that comes with this devastating diagnosis, but also the financial toll. As stated before Grayson has endured numerous hospital stays, surgery, chemotherapy treatments, and there is much more of all of these to come. Grayson is a HUGE Clemson fan. He even served as honorary captain at one of their recent scrimmages, and everyone in the Clemson family has been so wonderful and generous to him. We want to help take some of the financial burden off of Grayson's family. We have organized a fundraiser in his honor, with all proceeds going toward helping pay Grayson's medical bills. We have scheduled the fundraiser for Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, from 5:00-7:00, here at our school (Forest Acres Elementary). This little boy has touched the heart and soul of our school and our community. He is a fighter, and we are going to fight with him. His family will never give up and will never quit. It is not in their vocabulary, nor is it in ours. We are all praying to see this little boy run and play with his friends again, and enjoy watching him put his “WWE” wrestling moves on his daddy. We all believe our God is still in control and He is the Great Physician. However, in hoping for a miracle, financial burdens have accumulated. Team Grayson has formed in hopes of alleviating a portion of that burden, no matter how big or small. We are excited to announce that several former Clemson football players will be in attendance at the fundraiser, as well as some of the Clemson cheerleaders, Rally Cats, and Tiger Band members. We are offering hot dog plates for $5, as well as other food items, including a bake sale. There will be a silent auction that includes many wonderful packages, including a vacation package! T-shirts and wristbands will be sold, and inflatables will be available for the kids. 100% of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to Grayson’s family. We encourage each and every one of you to attend this very special event, and to SHARE this post on your page. We, as teachers, want to teach our students the value of learning, not only in the classroom, but also in life. However, sometimes the greatest lessons in life are taught by a child. Grayson has taught us all how to be a champion and fighter. Please come out and show your support for this precious child and his family. #WeBelieve #Allin#TeamGrayson

compassionate and tolerant of the younger among us, for I realize that they have a myriad of battles to face in their lives, and the time I have left available to help them is drawing nigh.
That this young child is facing life's ultimate battle places the above thoughts in clearer perspective, and my sincerest prayers are for the peace and comfort that only the Almighty can render.
