Orange Bowl tech question...

Family wants to have an outdoor viewing party of the Orange Bowl. Rather than dismounting big screen and running cable outside, I was thinking of playing it off of wifi from my computer with projector. Can you play game from ESPN.com if it's on ESPN 1 or only if it's on ESPN 3? Other thoughts or Ideas?

off of espn3.com as long as it is on one of the espn network channels. Assuming your cable or satellite company provides you access to espn3.com you should be able to see it

or you could rent a huge TV for a couple of days and not have to worry about the lag time and buffering that can come with watching it online....but if I had a projector i guess i'd probably find a way to make it work too.

To add to the above poster, this is true in some scenarios.
ESPN3 is an online streaming service that allows users to watch ESPN3 content. Users gain access to this through their Internet Service Provider. Basically if your ISP pays ABC/ESPN/Disney for the service you have access to it. If you are connected to your own internet through your own ISP, it should automatically authenticate you. If, however, you are connected through a different ISP that does not pay ABC/ESPN/Disney for the service, you should be able to login with your account information for your ISP to gain access to ESPN3 content. Again, this is through your ISP and only pertains to ESPN3 content (not ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, etc).
WatchESPN is a separate service. WatchESPN allows users to view ESPN content over the internet (or ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPNClassic, ESPN on ABC, ESPN3, etc). This service is provided by your cable provider. If your cable provider pays ABC/ESPN/Disney for service, then you have access to it. Since this is not authenticaed through your ISP, you must login with your account for your cable provider to gain access to it. Currently only AT&T U-Verse, Bright House Networks, Midcontinent Communications, Time Warner Cable, Charter Communications, Cox Communications, Verizon FiOS TV, and Xfinity offer this service to their customers.
In summary, ESPN3 only gives you access to ESPN3 content. If you have one of the above mentioned cable providers (Satellite customers such as myself are SOL), then you can use your cable account information to log on (not ISP account) and stream ESPN content.
I mention cable provider account and not ISP because if you get these from two different providers, you would be required to use your cable account. For instance if you had Xfinity Cable and Uverse internet, you could not get WatchESPN through Uverse account since you do not have cable service with them. You would be required to log in with your Xfinity account to gain access to the content

You have 2 options
Dec 24, 2013, 6:43 PM
|
|
1.) Pay for ESPN3/WatchESPN and get a good high quality stream.
or...
2.) Use a free streaming site (at your own risk) and do it that way. Obviously, the quality is not going to be as good. Just google "live sports streams" and I'm sure you can find something.
