Offense better than last year?

Oct 25, 2016, 8:15 PM

I read today where Dabo said our offense is better than last year. However our offense is currently ranked 55th in the country. I love Clemson but there is no way a team ranked 55th in the country on offense is going to win the national championship. We are absolutely underperforming on offense no matter what anybody says. I haven't seen anything this year that is telling me we could crush a decent team 58-0 like we did to Miami last year. Hope we get it together on offense starting this weekend...

False, but I learned the difference between "your" & "you're" in first grade. Does that count?

There is no way we will win the national championship. You are right. What have I been thinking, what is the team thinking? They will need to start readjusting their goals starting now, because once they find out what you have just discovered, they may end up trying very hard for no reason. In fact, I will forward this enlightening post to the coaching staff right now, and recommend you for a position on their staff as you have profound wisdom and insight that few possess. Bravo sir, bravo.

Ouch you got dusted cooter....

Our offense isn't 55th. More like 25ish.

Oct 25, 2016, 10:57 PM

Last year we were 6th in FEI and 10th in S&P though. There's definitely been a dropoff but last year our offense didnt really heat up until the 2nd half of the season.

So what

Oct 25, 2016, 10:59 PM

We're getting better with every game. We started out slow. That's OK, to improve like that, right? This team's best game is the next one, and that is how you want it to fall.

Our defense is better than last year, and will improve also. Neither side of the ball has played their best game.

Last year's defense started really looking like a sieve the last part of the season as Kearse and others started thinking about the NFL (discussion today on radio verified this) and the back half of our defense ran around like decapitated birds and left wide open gashes all over the field.

It's how you finish and come down the back stretch that counts.

I'll play.

Oct 26, 2016, 12:10 AM

Through 7 games between last year and this year, the total offense was 3,258 yards last year, while it's 3,320 yards this year. The number is obviously better.

Now, let's compare games between last year and this year.

Last year: Wofford, Appalachian State, at Louisville, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Boston College, at Miami
This year: at Auburn, Troy, South Carolina State, at Georgia Tech, Louisville, at Boston College, NC State

First thing first, we have more away games this year so far than last year.

I'll say South Carolina State and Wofford are pretty much equal. I'll say Appalachian State and Troy as the same. Boston College, Georgia Tech and Louisville are much much better this year. You can compare Notre Dame last year to NC State this year, I think. Game at Auburn this year was definitely tougher than that at Miami.

So, overall, I don't see anything wrong for Dabo to say that the offense is better than last year. (Not that I agree with every aspect.)

Of course, expectations make us expect more from this offense.

You may want to go about the comparison to other teams. If you want to do that, we'll have to do a deep analysis of every team including their schedule.

You are comparing the Clemson to other teams Dabo is comparing Clemson 2015 to Clemson 2016.
