As a kid, during football season, every Sunday we watched Coach Howard's Show religously. It was hosted by Vernon Tate and Coach Howard ALWAYS called him Voinar, in that country accent of his. Win or lose, we always felt better after watching his show. He was truly, The Legend. We all loved him. Me dad and Coach went way back to the 40s after the war and dad was the 1st in his family to go to college. Somehow, they became friends and stayed friends until Coach died. I was at the Spring game when he was presented with a gold Cadillac on his way out the coaching door. I got to know him and still remember the last time we spoke, during the beginning of the mess with Danny's firing. He loved Danny, but told me, "Son, the man was a great coach and won over 70% of hos game, but no man is bigger than Clemson". Still love and admire him to this day.
