Lawson and Kearse

Oct 13, 2015, 2:09 PM

What are the chances these guys stay for one more year? Our D would be crazy good if we can keep them on for another year!

GO TIGERS!

I for one don't see it

Winning a national championship would be AMAZING but I don't think it'd be a couple million worth of amazing. At that level you have to look at it as a business decision and as someone who would have to work for 75 years to make what these guys make in a year...... I'd take it.

I know it's rare for high caliber players to stick around. CJ did and he is having a good NFL career. Would be nice to keep at least a few of these guys.

If I could only have one of the two stay.....

Oct 13, 2015, 3:28 PM

it would be Kearse without question. Lawson is a stud, but I like all the young DE's we have. They both will be hard to replace, but I feel we won't replace Kearse. There will be a dropoff. I love his playing ability, effort, attitude, and interviews.

This is our championship run year. Lawson is gone. Maybe 5% chance Kearse stays. 50% chance Dodd stays, probably the same for Alexander.

I'd say not very likely to keep them. They are great players and will undoubtedly be paid a lot if they leave.

Re: Lawson and Kearse

Honestly? Slim. Matt Miller, the lead NFL Draft Reporter for Bleacher Report has them both as potential first rounders at this point. He usually has a really good eye for talent.

Kearse is 6'4" 220 maybe... he may be closer to 6'5" 230. NFL teams are going crazy for those big safeties a la Kam Chancellor. He is also the fastest guy on this defense. I don't see him staying.

Lawson is probably more likely to stay, but he's been unstoppable this year and scouts/GMs have definitely taken notice. At 6'3" 270 he doesn't have any "size concerns" like Beasley had that could cause him to slide down draft boards. He could pretty much play on the end in any 3-4 or 4-3 system at his size, so I expect him to go pro too.

I think they both are gone at the end of the season. Seen an early mock draft with Lawson projected late first round.

really should go ahead and go. They would be missed greatly. If their grades come back as second rounders, then of course come back.

Lawson was about to leave for the NFL last year because of family reasons. They gone.

Re: Lawson and Kearse

Oct 13, 2015, 3:23 PM

Lawson is going in the top 5 picks and won't be here. Remember he spent a year at prep school so by age he should be a senior. Kearse is probably 50/50 and the most likely to be talked into staying. Yes the NFL wants those kind of safeties but not more than great QBs, WRs, CBs, DEs, OL, DTs. LBs, RBs, and Safeties are all subject to become 2nd round picks even if they are the best at their position of which I am not certain that case can be made. He may be one of the best overall athletes, though. Alexander could sneak into the conversation as a 1st rounder but there are some other elite corners out there that will also be coming out. He has a lot going for him with whatever he chooses. If he stays one more year he could be taken 1st among corners without it being close. That has a slight chance of persuading him to stay.

I would say: Lawson 90% chance of leaving
Kearse: 50%
Alexander: 75%
Mike Williams: 20%
Leggett: 20%

Us going to the playoff or to the NC would probably encourage all of the above to go assuming they play well.

Re: Lawson and Kearse

Oct 13, 2015, 3:32 PM

If Kearse is graded as the top safety in the draft he will be gone. It obviously varies from year to year but in the last 4 drafts there have been 1, 4, 3, and 2 safeties gone in the first round the highest pick being Barron from Alabama at number 7.

So depending on his grade and team needs I would say it would be a little higher than 50%, I would actually change Kearse and Alexander's percentages.

I would be shocked and thrilled.**

Both are absolute rock stars on the field.

Oct 13, 2015, 3:33 PM

Personally, I think we have a better shot of Kearse returning. I don't think Lawson is even thinking of coming back.
