Kicker should be the easiest position to recruit in the portal.

The fact that our coaching staff chose to trust our national championship level roster w/ a freshman kicker is inexcusable to me. We have to recruit in the portal, or we will continue to have holes in our roster. That's a fact.

Oh suck it bro. He was the number one kicker in his class and he played so well on practices that he ran off a fifth year kicker and two underclassmen who were additionally convinced he had the job wrapped up. It’s a terrible situation but not one born of negligence.

He's a freshman. We should never be in a position to start a freshman kicker with the portal.

We’re starting freshman at other positions. Heck experience wise Cade is still pretty much a freshman.
Given we had two different kickers miss, maybe it’s not entirely them. Maybe it’s the holder.

He’s just having a rough start. The portal would only be reactionary to his performance so far, and the portal is closed. In fact, if it wasn’t for the portal we would not have lost kickers.

No. Robert gunn is an unproven highly rated freshman. He competed with liam boyd who only started kicking FG's in high school due to his soccer season being shortened from covid. He is now a back up on UNC.
Robert gunn missed an extra point in the spring game. If he is truly a head case and performs extremely well in practice, but is one of tbe worst kickers i have ever seen during games, then i really hope we snag on in the portal after this year.

A) He’s a redshirt freshman. He was on the team last year.
B) He was ranked as high as the #3 kicker in the country coming out of high school. 247 composite #8.
C) He didn’t kick a FG in 2022, so when did you see him being the worst in a game? Because if it was this season, my point stands, the portal couldn’t fix it, it’s closed. In fact, we lost kicker(s) to the portal, so you could argue the portal hurt us.

Yes. If what you are saying is true and he performs very well in practice, but turns into the worst kicker i have ever seen during games, then he is a head case and i hope we get a kicker in the portal this off season.
I dont think that is the case though.

Dude, this is not a NC roster. Talk about delusional. Flip open the 2018 press guide for a refresher on what a NC team looks like.

That's what our coaches believed preseason. I dont disagree. We have a stellar defense, experienced oline, great RB's, and an underrated WR group.

Boy were they wrong. So you think this team is as fast as 2018? That would be a standard. Stellar defense? Not quite. They’re good, but definitely not great. Hate to break it to you, but we have been on a steady decline since the peak of 2018. That is just a fact to any rational human. BTW, we’re 3-4 in our last 7 games in case you missed that.

One of our best kickers was Catman and he had his struggles too. Once he settled down, we know what happened. Gunn will too.
