in rookie contracts in the WNBA. These are the best women basketball players on the planet, and a rookie deal doesn't even crack 100K a year? The article made mention of Caitlin Clark's NIL deals being worth north of ~2 million, and she will be dropping down to THAT? Now, she said she doesn't think her sponsors will leave her when she turns pro, and in her case, since she is the most visible woman's player maybe EVER, she may be right. But, it will still be different, even for her. Michael Jordan could probably buy that whole league out of change he found in his clothes dryer. It bottles the mime.

It's hard to pay the players higher salaries when the league has never had a profitable year in its history.

Your post “boggles the mind” for me too, but I gotta admit I love your take with “bottles the mime.”

The mental picture of a mime silently flailing against the interior of a giant bottle….. 🤣

Gotta love auto correct and/or speech to text gaffes. 😊

Go Tigers

if not for the NBA, the players would have to start having bake sales and yanking ta ta’s out in a attempt to keep the lights on in the building.

They should go to 9ft goals

There is no interest in the WNBA. I saw a brief poll taken in a large city across the street from the venue that the ladies team played in. None of the people questioned on the street could name the team mascot. I do think it's both odd and funny that the NBA is forced to pay the WNBA to stay afloat. Why not let supply and demand fucntion and stop trying to jam it down peoples throats? Been told for the last 60 years that soccer would be bigger than college and pro football. Just had to be since the upcoming generations always participated in soccer as children and that would spark the transition. Still waiting on that change.

Revenue - expenses = Profits

Salaries are expenses.

If revenue is low, then expenses including salaries must also be low to achieve a profit (although I doubt many of the owners make a profit other than credit for being woke).

and this is one of the bigger things that will force the pros to stop using college as the amateur farm league

would have the clout to get some interest going. Defeat is a self fulfilling prophesy, but victory can be, as well.

A close relative of mine used to be the vice-president of Marketing and Operations for a WNBA team. She said her main job was to reduce the amount of losses per year from 1 million to a half-million ...... which she did. Still a lot of money to lose though!
