ACC expansion & divisions

May 9, 2015, 1:17 PM

The ACC could make matters quite interesting for the future if the conference decided to expand to sixteen members. While the Big 12 is attempting to figure out their future it is time Swoffie and crew move to add West Virginia or another school to the conference. This single move would mean Notre Dame would have to either "fish or cut bait" sooner than later and become a full member.

Once we have sixteen members we move to four pods instead of divisions and rotate scheduling on a nine game football arrangement each season. Besides WVa. who would be your first choice to join?

Not Going To Happen

May 9, 2015, 1:29 PM

West Virginia is not an option. Neither is any other member of the BIG 12. Same as ACC the GOR agreements in the BIG 12 guarantee no one can leave for quite sometime. Very unlikely any SEC or BiG 10 school would leave because of $$$. That leaves the American conference and the mid-majors. Slim pickings for anyone that would add more $$$ than they would take in their share of conference revenue. If Notre Dame would enter it would be worth it, but they will not. No way they will share their riches unless playoff entry becomes dependent on winning a conference. As of now it doesn't, so expansion is a pipe dream.

I think Notre Dame does join, 2-3 years down the road

I think we pick up Navy, personally. It would give the ACC the rights to 3 of the longest continuous running rivalries in college football: Clemson SC, ND Navy, FSU UF.

I believe the Big 12 has clear issues and despite GOR legal restrictions, I believe West Virginia will eventually want a closer geographical tie to another conference. The ACC would be their best option. Barring them I see Navy or Univ. of Cincinnati as next best options. Notre Dame's TV contract runs out and by then the ACC better have one with ESPN or we likely won't gain the Irish as a full member. We clearly need our own network!

Notre Dame's decision to remain independent has very little to do with the NBC TV contract.

Please let's don't call them pods. Sounds too nerdy.

up the current format. We get to play FSU,GT and Louisville now on an annual basis the way things stand now. I couldn't care any less about more games against the rest.

There's really nobody worth adding at this point.***

I prefer to stay at 14 members, but use the 3-5 schedule format I saw proposed...Each school would have 3 permanent annual rivals and then rotate among 2 groups of 5 every other year.

Honestly if you were gonna pick someone out of the power 5 i would say memphis. Justin fuente is really building something here with limited resources and if they could get in the power 5 they have fred smith who loves football that would pump big money into the program. They finished last year in the top 25. Plus they have the basketball history and tradition that some look for. Also it would renew the rivalry with Louisville that anyone that knows would tell you was as heated as most any rivalry. Louisville got memphis into the American. They were cosidered by the big 12 not long ago. The location would open up tn and is a stones throw from arkansas, mississippi, louisiana and alabama. The acc in memphis could have an impact on the heart of the sec.
