Does Anyone On Tnet know the about the Murdaugh Family

personally? They seem like such a prominent family in that part of the state that it would be interesting to hear what people have to say about them off the record before they went crazy within the last 5 years.
Have people always known that Alex was a con artist and a liar?

He is a Biden supporting Democrat. Donated to him. But that is not mentioned in the media. If he was a Trump supporting Republican this would’ve been the lead-in of every story about him in the national media. Most of the state media covering him are SCAR graduates. They don’t mention the fact that he is a former member of the Gamecock football team and a big gamecock donor. If he had played for Clemson you would’ve heard that from them frequently. Just my opinion.

that is one of the weirdest and most skewed views i've seen - almost as paranoid as Alex claims to be
everything you say is utterly irrelevant to the trial and to the issues
did you know he also donated to McMaster and L. Graham?

In case you haven’t noticed, no one in the current administration or the media misses an opportunity to tie anything negative to Trump. Even if they have to make it up as the Press Secretary often does and Pete Buttiegig recently did in regards to the train derailment.
As far as the state media And all you need to do is look at how much the current and former Georgia players are blasted when they get arrested. I would say Clemson players but it is rare for one of ours.

You are a special kind of ignorant and one of the reasons this country is in the shape it’s in.
We have a career politician in there now. Biden=corruption
Every BS thing the liberals brings up comes out as a smear campaign with little to no credibility. All stalling with the false Russian collusion story paid for by Hillary.
Must get your info from the View. They hate him so knowing how vile those women are I believe I’m good with where I feel about the former President.
Don’t like the guy’s personality but his policies were dead on.

He gets blasted because he won't bow the knee to the globalists. You honestly think he is any more crooked than the average politician? Come on man?! Joe and Hunter in the Ukraine and China? Nancy and Chuckie have made untold millions above their salary while in office. L.G. has made a fortune on the military machine.
I am not saying Trump is honest. I am saying you can't seriously tell me he is any worse than the swamp dwellers.

I don’t see any media caring about his politics or favorite college sports team, regardless of what they are. Why? Because it has nothing to go with the case and no one cares.
I agree as long as the media is consistent. Unfortunately if the issue does not fit the woke narrative it will go unreported and buried

Well the prosecutor did bring up he and his family were at UofSC for a baseball game shortly before the murders. His wife and son were in the stadium waiting and he was at the hotel having trouble from "jonesing" over having no pills. So I guess sports was a part of this case.

Who cares what his political affiliation is or isn't? Why would it matter what school he supports? Who gives a chuck if/when/where he did or didn't play sports when he was 18-22 years old?

They have mentioned that the family tailgated at a SCar baseball game that last weekend before the murders.
They also indicated that his opioid problems began with a knee injury from when he supposedly played football at SCar. He was a walk-on during the Joe Morrison years. Almost makes you wonder if pressure from the family contributed to Joe's cardiac issues...

worked with Randolph a few times back in the 1990s he was a pretty straight shooter and an effective solicitor
heard lots of stories about Buster, Alex's grandfather and many of them painted him as less-than-clean, but then he was from an earlier time when things were even shadier down in that part of the state

I think its very ironic that his family was the prosecutor for that circuit for almost 100 years and yesterday he was on the stand being tried for a crime that his family would have been prosecuting in the biggest court case that town has seen. Kinda crazy to think about. He has ruined the family legacy.

Not only that, but he actually tried to make the case that he lied to law enforcement investigators over and over again because he didn't trust them even though his family essentially WAS the law in that part of the state for generations.

I’m under the impression Paul killed his mom. All the reports say he was a hot head. His ex girlfriend just came out and said he use to abuse her and the housekeeper warned her about Paul. You add in the mysterious death of the same house keeper and the 19 year old boy. Paul good have been a killer. That’s not including the boat accident. The mom probably got done dealing with him. She was shot with a AR15 which to me is a younger persons weapon of choice. And Paul was shot with a shotgun. Probably a older person weapon of choice. Paul killed his mom called his dad and told him what happened. His dad rushed over and when he saw it for himself, he killed Paul. Makes for a good mystery novel.

Investigators believe Maggie and Paul Murdaugh are killed around 8:50 p.m. near the kennels. Paul is shot twice with a shotgun, once in the chest and once in the head. Maggie is shot 5 times with 300 Blackout ammo from an AR-style rifle. Two of those shots strike her in the head.

I worked for Walterboro Telephone as a contract cable splicer back in the early 70's. Was working south of Lodge on Hwy 601 one day when a truck stopped and a man got out and asked what I was doing. He said he owned a large tract of land there. After some small talk I asked if there would be any chance I could do some still hunting and he said sure but not on Saturdays as they would be running dogs. He actually took me to a coupled of tree stands he said I could use. Found out later that he was a Murdaugh, don't know which one but know it wasn't Alex as he would have been a kid.

I have family and friends down in the Walterboro and Hampton county areas. He and his family have always been entitled and corrupt. Going back generations. They’ve always had law enforcement in their back pocket, going back to his grandfather. SLED should be doing an internal investigation on how corrupt the Hampton County officials and law enforcement are, because they allowed all of this and looked the other way. The whole “opioid addiction” thing is BS to make it look like that was the reason for stealing all that money.

well, since he's been dead for more than 20 years
he was supposedly in deep with the local moonshiners for many years early in his time as solicitor he acted as a defense attorney for a few, even though he was a prosecutor (he was actually charged and tried for federal crimes, but got off - the judge called him 'grossly unethical')
also supposed to have multiple illegitimate children - one of whom was a lawyer in Beaufort County, and if you ever saw them in close proximity, it was believable
and he would try to influence jurors in civil trials that his family firm was involved in.

I smell Ozark show on this one. No motivation to Kill his wife and son as neither had any life insurance on them from what I understand.. However Alex could have laundered money for some cartel / Bad actors and they killed his family in front of him them said if he spoke they would kill him! But just a theory to go down no facts.

If this were true he would have been a lot more than just "fidgetty" when he was at Almeda visiting his mother. Just my opinion.

Well, the entire family are Coots, Biden Democrats and lawyers. That should tell you all you need to know about their character......or the lack thereof.

They have a house in the Reserve on Keowee and are probably the biggest Brownell supporters financially.

No, but used to do races with Corey and Duffy was my next-door neighbor when he got appointed by Randolph Murdoagh to be Solicitor.
The old man - Mr. Buster won a bunch of $$ for my Aunt Ada when her husband got killed by the train in Walterboro. Daddy always said, "if you ever need help in Hampton, call Mr. Buster."
They were untouchable here in the Lowcountry.

Maggie was entertaining ideas of a divorce from Alex which means she would get half of everything they owned. The entire 1,700 acre estate where they lived was in her name. Paul was going on trial in 3 days for manslaughter and was going to say anything to try to stay out of prison which may have included spilling the beans on some of his father's activities. I would say there were plenty of reasons for him to commit murder which I think he did. In saying that, I think the prosecution is losing this case by not focusing on the murder more. They are focused on his money theft and pill addiction and have yet to ask him where were the clothes that he changed out of the night of the murder. No one, seemingly, has located them.

I think all of the financial talk that the prosecution has been going over is an attempt to make sure that the Jury knows that he is a sleaze ball capable of looking at them and lying in their face just as he did with his own clients that he stole from.
It's pretty good character assassination on their part, but I think they took it a bit too far and let it drag out too long.

Correct. The prosecution has a very circumstantial case. So they make the jury hate Alex for his thefts. But you're right. It's going on too long. I don't know why the defense just didn't stipulate to all of it.

The prosecution is effing this up big time. Not to mention law enforcement bumbled the crime scene. Waters is going on way too long about the money Murdaugh stole and letting Murdaugh have his way on the stand. They’re allowing him to humanize himself. Two female jurors actually cried yesterday while he was talking about his family and how he loved him.
Going to be OJ Simpson all over again.

We've only seen the back of the tapestry during this first month of the trial. The time I had to testify in a criminal case the assistant prosecutor spent the week laying out all the threads of the storyline. The solicitor stepped in for the summary and skillfully wove together the picture of how corrupt the defendant really was. I'll be very disappointed if the AG doesn't wrap up this trial the same way.

Prosecutor is beating him about his lies - piling them on. It's a circumstantial case, so getting the jury beyond reasonable doubt is a chore. Not sure if he's done that. But I feel better about a guilty verdict than before, but I'll be surprised if he goes down for murder.
Dude sure can't answer yes or no

I know many people who know them, but I do not. I grew up a little over an hour away and had never heard of them.

There is a brand new Docuseries about them on HBOMAX that give a lot of their history. But start of the crazy started coming to light when the son Paul killed that pretty girl in a drunken boat crash. There were others on the boat that luckily survived after smacking a bridge piling running wide open like 1:30am pitch black outside.
The series gives a ton of insight as to how even the grandfather along with Alex were setting up the kids stories starting that night in the hospital that would help out the future lawsuits, even to the point of get the kids to create confusion about who was actually driving the boat. Worth a watch if you have HBO or MAX

The prosecutor knows he is a full of #### manipulator and talker. He’s slick so he just let him ramble on and on while on the stand hoping he will slip up with his stories. Anybody that lies like that cat is capable of anything in my opinion. He certainly had no problem stealing from and deceiving people he keeps repeating that he loved. (Brother, best friends, law partners that were like family to him). He ripped them all off.

Well, one side of my family are Youmans from Hampton County Black Creek area from the 1850s. My Grandfather had some "business" dealings with the Murdaugh family. They made some money the way a whole lot of influential people in the Low Country of South Carolina did in the early 1920s. Trying to judge how things were in particular 100 years ago must be done with a wide application of latitude. My grandfather ran away from home to apprentice out as a mechanic in the Tampa area because he did not want to look up a mule's behind the rest of his life.
