Heard a lot of talk this week about UGA having a weak

Sep 6, 2013, 8:58 PM

offensive line incapable of stopping a pass rush (Cootlumbia radio, of course) and how that spells doom for the Dawgs against the Coots considering they're bringing and "SEC defensive line" into their matchup. I don't think people realize what kind of talent and depth we've got in our interior DL (not to mention the ends). It's nasty, and getting nastier game by game.

Isn't UGA's offensive the same one that was "5 yards from a national championship" last year? Didn't at least 4 out of 5 return from last season? If not all of them? Wasn't that one of their big strengths heading into our game? The funny thing is, it might very well be so. We just might be that much better on our DL than we've seen in quite some time.

The remaining season will tell the story. Starting tomorrow.

The coots might realize this by the end of the year but speaking depth wise we are better, meaner, nastier than the poop peckers are! Time will prove this our attitude is that way and attitude will get you half way!

I'm wondering if their OL lacks depth. As the game went on, the penalties and mental mistakes piled up.

Penalties and mental mistakes are common attributes

of getting stuffed and out hustled all game long.

Yeah, they were rattled by the intensity of the clemson DL. I think we can rattle them too but maybe they get it together by tomorrow. I think we will give them problems up front, though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No doubt. SCar has immense talent there. It's going to be

really interesting to watch that battle play out.

One team was ready to play, the other wasn't.

Given the winded performance of the Coots defensive front against UNC, Georgia may ring their bell soundly on Saturday.

Re: Heard a lot of talk this week about UGA having a weak

Sep 6, 2013, 9:54 PM

I think we (Georgia) were ready to play. I have no problem with our effort. The difference was in an evenly matched game, we made mistakes and y'all didn't.

We turned it over inside our 20, had 9 penalties, and botched a short field goal. You can't do that against Clemson and win. I think that was the difference. So congrats to Clemson... y'all played better than we did.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

a Dawg agrees

Sep 6, 2013, 9:50 PM

Dawg fan here. I think that was well said. Georgia has a fine line, but Clemson has a great D. I thought it was a pretty even match up (says a lot for Clemson) except for late first qtr through halftime when Gurley was hobbled.

Credit the Clemson staff and D... at that point we were one dimensional and y'all teed off on us. Y'all made the most of the opportunity, and we couldn't block you at all. I think it stabilized later in the game when we could run the ball again, but by then the damage was done.

Clemson beat a quality team Saturday, and y'all deserve the high ranking and all the credit you've been given.

I want to warn you about one thing... I think Georgia left everything on the field Saturday night. Its hard to get emotionally high for two weeks in a row. Both Clemson and Georgia may be flat tomorrow. It won't matter for y'all, but against Carolina we will likely get our butts whipped. Don't let that take away from what y'all did Saturday night. I think we lost two games in Clemson.

So if that plays out, don't listen to any naysayers who will say, "Maybe Georgia wasn't any good after all." I think we'll have some good wins this year ourselves. I know our defense is young, but y'all deserve to move up to #4. I think #11 is about right for us. We should have started the season there, and y'all should have started #56. Good luck the rest of the way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Gurley injure himself on

Sep 6, 2013, 10:12 PM

that first TD run, following which UGA scored two more TD's without him in relatively short fashion (21-14 you guys early 2nd quarter) without him in the game?

This is another thing I've been hearing a lot about all week which doesn't add up. Once Gurley was healthy and back in the game, didn't CU outscore UGA 24-7 up until the late 4th Q prevent defense TD that allowed the clock to reach game over time?

A lot of season left either way. Good luck tomorrow.

DVR?

Sep 6, 2013, 10:27 PM

Granted, I was in rare form Saturday night watching the game. But as I recall it was that 75 yard run that tweaked him and subsequently sent him to the locker room shortly afterwards for the needle. He missed, what, 11+ minutes of game time following during which UGA added two TD's?

Okay. Here's the ESPN Play-by-Play link for the game...

Gurley doesn't touch the ball once during two UGA drives resulting in two TD's while he's out. Once back in, CU goes on a 24-7 run until late in the 4th Q.

Re: DVR?

Sep 7, 2013, 12:39 AM [ in reply to DVR? ]

I tried to forget all the details. My impression was that Clemson adjusted to what Georgia was doing in the first half, and once you did that, we didn't have an answer. I felt our offense moved the ball a lot better after Gurley got back to speed in the second half, but penalties and mistakes erased a lot of that.

Crowd noise also affected their D line

Sep 6, 2013, 11:11 PM

We forced them to go to a silent count and our D line was able to pick up on the timing of the snap. They won't have that issue at home.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I heard the same

Sep 7, 2013, 8:07 AM

before and after. The story always seems to change.

Walt on his show before the game was all about how great Aaron Murray is.
After the game: how bad a coach Mark Richt is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I heard the same

Sep 7, 2013, 10:53 PM

I think we (Georgia) had a much tougher time dealing with your D line than USC's. I think you guys are loaded this year. In a lot more places than just the skill positions.

Good win tonight for the dawgs, should be back in the top 10 with a solid hold on the East, esp. if Florida keeps spiraling
