Head Coach Shortlist

First I want to say there is no way in #### Dabo is leaving but just for the #### of it, who you guys got that you think would make a good head coach?
I got...
#1 David Shaw - Culture fit. Has won at a high level with lesser talent and would be a great representative of the paw.
#2 Kliff Kingsbury - You want offense? You got it. Has NFL experience. Coached the likes of Patrick Mahomes and seems to have prepared him pretty well for the NFL. Great offensive scheme and on the younger side so he's more attractive to potential recruits.
#3 Dan Lanning - It's possible he won't leave Oregon because that is a pretty decent job but he'd no doubt have it easier in just about every aspect at Clemson. He's a fiery guy, reminds me of a young Dabo. Has his team playing good offense but knows it takes good defense to win at the highest level. I personally like everything I've seen from the guy.
That's just a few that I got. Interested in who you guys think would be the right guy.

Lanning. He has done a good job at Oregon and coaches with fire.

Lanning already shut down A&M in a press conference.
I don’t understand David Shaw. Was pretty good at Stanford for a few years, but sucked and got fired for a reason at the end.
As far as Kingsbury, his age is his best shot. Just because he is offensive analysts at USC, it doesn’t take any credit from Lincoln Riley’s main control of that offense. Also, Kingsbury has not accomplished a thing his whole career. Yeah he’s shown some signs of being a really good one, but never came through big.
Jimbo Fisher has to be a consideration. You know, he has a different approach and personality than Dabo in some areas. But, he’s shown to have integrity and respect. And he stands for his team. And he has had elite years where he was a top-5 coach. He would use the portal and all of that more of course, and it’d be interesting to see if it would work.
I also think you’d have to consider Garrett Riley. Despite this last season, there are obvious improvements in overall offensive. The turnovers will diminish with time.
The turnovers are what make Clemson a 4 loss team. Once they erase after the transition to this new scheme and coach, it will run fluently.
So…Riley was a tremendous hire, and I think if Dabo left, they would honestly consider this hire. He’s a good young coach with lots of character traits that obviously fit in Clemson, SC.
Some names that may not be expected, Elijah Drinkwitz, Luke Fickell, and if Shane Beamer ever showed lots of improvement, then yeah I’d consider him. He’s a good person.
I also think we would push Brent Venables. It seems like he’s got a good thing going for him at Oklahoma though. But I’m sure Neff would probably at least reach out. Brent has become a faithful person under Dabo, and now has been outspoken on those values within his life. Knowing that Brent has these fond memories of growth at mainly Clemson, he may consider it. The community would also love him.
Jeff Scott. Clemson ties as well. And while there is no proof of him being a successful head coach, his recruiting is at a proven high level. I think he’s a 4th choice or so.

My friend, the ONLY people on that list that have earned consideration from Clemson to coach here are Jeff Scott and Brent Venables (not gonna leave Oklahoma). Every other person on there is not even in the realm of consideration. Jimbo Fisher?! Shane Beamer?!
Sorry if this is a troll post , you got me

Well if Dabo leaves I'd be shocked...he'll have a statue at Clemson but highly unlikely at anywhere else he would go. Sadly the only reason he 'would consider' leaving is the loud voice of the "new money fans". Those of us that have bled orange for decades, have seen the 5-7 years know what Dabo means to this program, and that we've gone no where. New money and cluelesss some are.

I don’t believe you quite know how this works. In order for our football program to be wildly successful beyond the size of the town and school we have to hire a coach born in the state of Alabama. Start there and work backwards.

Shaw? I laughed at that one
Klingsbury - just watch the new Johnny football documentary on Netflix - that guy is a total scum bag
Lanning is legit - would take a boat load of money to land him
I don't think you are ready to replace Neff yet…

... in the early 90s. "Who will replace Bobby?"
It's a fun game to play, but just remember it is strictly for entertainment and not to be taken seriously.
It's gonna be so long between now and the time Dabo leaves that folks could list 50 names today of possible replacements and the actual replacement wouldn't be on that list.
Dabo's replacement is probably working today as an assistant coach at some Div 2 school.
