I also think they have no way to determine if it's fact or not based on the article mentioning that their request for comment wasn't returned.

**Unimportant note: Not one single person outside of the guy making the claim has corroborated any part of the alleged event.

But I am trying to think of an example of my ever using "ladies" in a professional letter as a way of addressing the recipient/s of the letter.
"Dear Ms. Smith and Ms. Jones" - check
"Dear Sue and Jackie" - check
If I was trying to sound professional (while asking for more money) I wouldn't say "Dear Ladies" or (if it was in the body of the letter) "you ladies can get back to me" (or whatever).
It sounds patronizing.

in attempt to get a raise I wouldn't address the recipients as "ladies" even if they are. I think a more professional approach would be something like
Susan/Judy-
I'm writing you.......
OTOH if the 3 of us had been in a meeting about something and I agreed to follow up with them, it may go something like
Ladies-
I'm following up on topic x discussed in our meeting.......
Also, I never use "dear" in an email. For me that makes me think I'm wring a pencil/paper letter in 1938 to my mom from some WW1 site.
