Does anyone think Oregon's program

Jan 1, 2015, 8:38 PM

Would be as good as they are if they didn't have Nike backing them? Serious question.

I have always thought that if Nike wasn't pumping money into that program for world class training facilities, uniform combinations for each game and ext. that Oregon might have had a good program but they wouldn't be at the level they currently are.

Re: Does anyone think Oregon's program

Absolutely not. I grew up in the northwest watching Pac-12 sports and Oregon can attribute 90% of their success to Nike. SOOOO much money, just like Oklahoma State. UW and WSU were great (probably better programs historically in the northwest) but by 2000 every kid on the whole coast was wearing Oregon colors.

Look at their baseball team. Oregon State is a powerhouse program all pulls all of the northwest recruits, but Phil Knight decides he likes baseball so he builds a stadium and facilities in 2009. Out of nowhere they make the CWS in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

matter. Also, Rich Brooks did a great job in building that program, before Phil Knight started pouring a ton of money into that program.
