Did the renovations impact crowd enthusiasm?

Feb 28, 2018, 10:06 PM

I live 5 hours away, so I haven’t made it to a basketball game. Why does the crowd noise seem so bad on TV?

It's louder than ESPNU is making it seem. For some reason they tune down crowd noise like crazy. If it was on ACCN, although I hate it, it would sound louder.

the announcers for the game were in charlotte. might have something to do with it. they were not even there. plus there was about a 13 second delay.

quite the opposite, IMO

although it might not be quite as loud as the old LJ

but having the students on the sideline makes for a good atmosphere

it got loud in there several times last night

conference game for the last several years (even that year at Bon Secours). I think the difference is not the arena, but the team and style of play. We have shooters now, which is awesome. and the crowd definitely gets fired up for big 3 pointers. but we don't have as many transition points, breakaway dunks/alley oops, etc as we used to. Nor do we have a consistent shot blocker (remember KJ? goodness).

Also, I think we miss Donte's on court energy and emotion. Elijay and Amir are the best we got right now when it comes to that, IMO and it's not quite the same. On the flip side, Quise has the same expression on his face no matter what. LOL. I love it. it just different than I'm used to.

We did get fired up during that run last night because we were getting it at both ends of the court. We definitely can get loud, it just seems to be in spurts, just as the team's play can.

no, I personally don't think the latest version impacts crowd noise. The basic design really isn't that different - just nicer/bigger seats and a few less people. I like where the students are and they bought a lot of energy last night. I don't like the club seating behind the students. Poor attendance and at least 1/2 the people spend the game in the club areas and not in their seats. It's a poor look and leaves a lot of the area near the floor with no noise.

I assume the suites look bad on TV. the concept I'm ok with

Money rules the world. I get that. but that was poor planning on someone's part to put that as a backdrop for television.

I actually disagree. the students were there last night, and were present at times, but I didn't feel like they were engaged for a lot of the game. I thought Miami, maybe ND were the best atmospheres we've had this year.
