Dabo to Florida not as far fetched as it might seem...

Nov 19, 2014, 5:00 PM

I'm not suggesting this just because TCI is saying so. He really would make a lot of sense for UF, assuming they can't hire a home run like Chip Kelly. What's not to like? Can't beat USC and FSU (lately). Other than that, there really isn't anything. I get the feeling Foley, UF's AD, is really big on hiring good people. Muschamp was all class, and Dabo exudes a lot of those same qualities.

Now, would Dabo leave? Probably. Upward mobility for him would mean coaching Bama or another SEC power. Would he really want to follow Saban? I don't think so, not even with his ultra optimistic approach to life. Florida, on the other hand, is pretty bad right now. He'd be taking over a program that recruits itself in need of stability. Dabo has to know he's a CEO type coach, and for that kind of HC, UF is a dream job.

All of this might be a moot point, given the AD may have someone ahead of Dabo, but I think it is a possibility, not a joke like many seem to think.

One other thing. I don't think he would do crazy good at UF, probably 8-4 or 9-3 most years, but that would be enough to keep the job for a good while. That's really the biggest reason for him to stay at Clemson. He could easily win enough games at CU to be in good stead basically for as long as he wants.

I just don't think Gainsville and UF is the dream situation

Nov 19, 2014, 5:15 PM

that everybody assumes it is.

Frankly, I believe Clemson is much more desireable. Better chance to sustain success, better facilites, equal pay, unmatched fan loyalty, football-centric with a beautiful compact campus that sells itself.

Dabo can be as successful of a HC as he wants to be...

Nov 19, 2014, 5:19 PM

he has all the characteristics

it's all in the hires he makes

The bad thing is is if Florida must rebuild or Dabo has to..

Nov 19, 2014, 5:36 PM

...clean house Florida isn't the type of place that is going to afford its coach years of mediocrity. Plus like the other guy stated why would you go and play in the SEC when you can fight it out with FSU in the ACC and get to where you want? FSU has already proved it can be done in this league and the way Clemson schedules non-conference games if the stars align right in a year it would be a lot easier to get to the promise land at Clemson than in the SEC. Plus Dabo has proved he isn't like the other head coach in the ######## of South Carolina where its all about how much money you can make. Dabo can recruit here, can win here and can get the coaches he needs to win here so you tell me why would you leave to go coach in the Swamp?

Because recruiting is the lifeblood of any college football program, and at UF he would absolutely crush it on the recruiting trail, with likely top 5 classes almost every year. Now, the flip side to this is that he'd need top 5 classes to compete at UF at the same level he's performing at Clemson. I think it comes down to this: is he deep-down a really fierce competitor or is really more concerned with being "set" for a long time. Most coaches would leave CU for Florida. That's not to say CU isn't a great job. It is. You make good points. I just think Dabo is pretty ambitious and would consider it.

I think he would owe Clemson a wad of money if
he left now.I could be wrong. He would also have
to play usuc and fsu, but would soon overtake
them.Probably will at Clemson.I hope he stays
with us.

Muschamp recruited well, too. That doesn't mean success.***

If he thinks this Cole Stoudt situation is annoying

Nov 19, 2014, 5:56 PM

He'd really hate it at UF. That fan base is desperate for success, and they're going to keep tearing themselves apart until they get it.

That'd be an awful job right now unless you had an iron stomach and incredibly thick skin. And it'd still probably age you three years for every one.

Nothing against Dabo, but if he decided to leave Clemson I truly believe we could and would hire a great coach. Rich Rod? Gary Patterson? Dan Mullen? Clemson is a very intriguing position! Finding a capable coach would not be hard for Clemson.

Just heard the talking Heads that the Florida booster that said Urban Meyer would be the next FL head coach well before the hire was done, states, Mike Shanahan (sp) will be the next FL head coach. Take it for what it's worth.

Clemson is a destination job

Nov 19, 2014, 6:04 PM

since Charlie Pell (how'd that work out for you) left for Florida. Dabo ain't going nowhere, Clemson inferiority complex notwithstanding (which too many on here have). Love him or hate him, he is here. As will anyone else who holds the reigns.

Re: Clemson is a destination job

Nov 19, 2014, 6:07 PM

Well be fine regardless. Would rather have a coach that has been a coordinator. Just my two cents.

Playing Devil's advocate;

Nov 19, 2014, 6:15 PM

if Dabo did go to UF, I guarantee you that one of the first things on his agenda would be to up the facilities. I attended a UF game 4(?) years ago with a buddy of mine who graduated there, and I couldn't believe how bad the facilities were. The practice field was nothing but mud. The stadium just seemed dingy and musty. I guess they are in a swamp, so that may count for the weird low tide smell. I'm not even sure they have an indoor facility down there. You'd figure they would in Florida, but my friend never made mention of one. Dabo would kill recruiting being at UF with upgraded facilities, considering how well he does with kids from Fla. at CU. Hope it doesn't happen...just thinking out loud.

Re: Dabo to Florida not as far fetched as it might seem...

I don't think Dabo's schtick would play at UF like it does at Clemson. Dabo kicks players off the team for talking back; UF has a history of covering up evidence for the serial killers on their roster.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Florida AD already essentially eliminated him and coaches

Nov 19, 2014, 6:18 PM

like him. He said that he is looking for a coach who has had offensive success; i.e. an offensive coordinator or a head coach who is good at coaching offense. Dabo is effectively a GM, and is not what the Florida AD is looking for.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Florida AD already essentially eliminated him and coaches

Nov 19, 2014, 8:34 PM

Dabo is not going anywhere because nobody wants him. Better for clemson that his way is a clemson way not necessarily a fit for other big time programs

Most people around the country think dabo isn't qualified for the job he has much less another big time program.

Think best offensive talent ever assembled at Clemson and still lost to his rival and couldn't beat FSU regularly. Both instate schools are virtually irrelevant nationwide with. Handful of years for either in the top 10 over the last 30 yrs

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At this point Dabo couldn't handle the UF job...

Nov 19, 2014, 6:20 PM

He gets to live in an insulated bubble in Clemson, where he can shield himself away from too much media criticism. The little bit of criticism Dabo has received at Clemson, he has handled horribly. Florida fans are a whole lot more critical than Clemson fans, and being a Christian doesn't mean a hill of beans to them. Much larger media market that covers Florida, so Dabo would have to answer a ton of critical questions from the media.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can't lie. Dabo would be incredible at UF

Nov 19, 2014, 8:38 PM

He would have no problems recruiting. We're talking Alabama level recruiting year in and year out.

It would be a good fit.

With that said. I highly doubt he leaves.
