Clemson basketball scouting reports are getting complicated

Think about how our opponents probably scouted us early to mid season, when the key was stopping PJ Hall, knowing the success of our offense revolved around him and that we lived and died from 3pt range outside of Hall.

As the season progressed, focus shifted some to Girard as a legitimate threat, but that wasn't as hard because Chase Hunter couldn't hit the backside of a barn from 3pt range, even if left wide open. This Ian guy started to be noticed as a potential thorn in their sides, but mostly from hustle and rebounding.

Now we have Hall and Schieffelin as two scoring threats, Schieffelin as a solid defender and rebounder, Girard can't be given an inch of space once he crosses half court (which opens up the inside for Hall), Chase Hunter is finding his confidence from 3pt range (which gives him more opportunity to drive to the basket as well when defender have to play him closer outside), Clark and Wiggins can shoot the 3, Godfrey is strong as an ox backing down his defender (hard to leave Hall to bring a double team), and our depth is as good as I can remember.

Our only kryptonite right now seems to be teams that have multiple good 3pt shooters. If our team stays healthy and we continue towards peaking during the tournament, this could be a fun tournament to watch.

The defense is not very good…I see a lot of confusion on assignments when they are in a Zone. They have been at least giving some looks of M2M lately, but our guys just aren’t very quick or athletic enough to be shut down defenders. I would like to see a match up zone where the players have responsibility for the ball on their side and back off into a zone when the ball is on the other side of the court. This would allow for more rebounding as well.

You are right and we aren't good at chasing down loose balls or rebounds that don't come right to us. I think it was the Louisville game (or maybe GT) where it seemed the players thought they were too good to hustle down a loose ball that was right there in front of them. I just remember it being a team we should have beaten by 20 and they kept letting them stay in the game from being outhustled.

Sometimes it is better to keep your "buts" out of it...

the great finishes the last 3 games have also relied on intensity of the defense, having more depth helps alot too, even the Duke game was won with great defense, lost by 3 missed calls by the crooked ref. on that last play. I agree with with y'all about the Louisville game, but let's let the past good. As PJ says "Chop Wood, carry water and EXPECT TO WIN. Tigers have not lost since then, and thats was just after the one point lost to VA.

Make no mistake, PJ is the 1st option and keeping him out of foul trouble is the key to every game. Burns, Diarra and Middlebrooks are huge so we have to guard without fouling.

I think Chase Hunter is the key to any legitimate success in the postseason. He's at his best when driving the lane and creating opportunities, and needs to continue to do that. But, if he continues warming back up to at least a decent 3-point threat, it will really open up this offense.

and Chase Hunter should get wide open looks if Girard is in

If Chase Hunter continues shooting decent from 3pt range, having him, Girard, and Hall all in at the same time would be nearly impossible to defend. Girard spaces out the defense, Hunter is either wide open or can drive straight to the basket and then if big man helps, it leaves Hall either open or a smaller defender left to help out at best. Ian has been great at finishing as well this year. I hope Chase keeps shooting 3s without hesitation and keeps knocking them down.

Well said Parrot! No excuse not to make the finals of our tournament or be a Sweet 16 team. They certainly have my support.
Go Tigers!
