Yes. It’s the only thing that could provide relevant teams to the ACC. Problem is, they lost the best two teams in their best market. That’s a huge blow. It would have made sense and pulled ND in with their USC and Stanford rivalries. Great academic institutions as well. Unfortunately the BIG beat the sleepy ACC to the punch.

UCLA is not one of the two best teams in the PAC 12.

That’s not what I said.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Best two teams? USC football maybe but UCLA?...

Feb 27, 2023, 11:26 AM [ in reply to Re: Anybody think this is a good idea? ]

I'd take Oregon and Utah easily over UCLA. Do you know the viewership numbers of UCLA football?

Compared to what we have now in the TV market, it is worth a study in my opinion. Would make for some interesting match ups.

That would change the GOR with the ACC

Agree to it and then Clemson and FSU can slip out the back door the SEC!

Thats literally the only good that could come from it***

Personally I think something should be done sooner rather than later bc, I firmly believe in the snooze you saying, or the saying about thinking long, thinking wrong!!!

Agree. The article says what 3 to 5 years? Lol yeah right. In that timeframe it’ll all be over but the crying.

I think it is an interesting idea but it would to be an East Conference and a West Conference because of expenses. I have no idea how they would work out championships but is certainly solves any problem of TV money.

Did anybody else notice that article counted SMU and San Diego State as teams that would be a part of the potential APAC? LOL

Dallas #5 tv market you’re darn tootin. Clemson’s is 41? Don’t laugh. San Diego good market as well not sure about labeling them a good fb power. Wouldn’t mind seeing their zoo again..

No word of any eastern gains or dumps. No ND WV (poor tv market) convo as well.

I wouldn’t mind a plane trip to Oregon or Washington. Heard too many good things.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oregon and Washington road trips.

Oregon: Leave a few days early. Head to Crater Lake National Park (If the game is in September.) If it's in October, leave early anyway and spend a few days on the Oregon Coast.

Washington: Leave a few days early and head to Olympic National Park. (September would be best, but weather is still probably good enough in October.)

Does anyone think flying 6.5 hours from Miami to Seattle with a 3 hour time change for a tennis match, a mid-week basketball game or for that matter a weekend football game makes sense.
Have we not already learned from the Big 12 fiasco.
This has to be the dumbest idea ever. Even professional teams don’t do this to their players.

Re: Anybody think this is a good idea?

Feb 26, 2023, 8:59 PM

Agreed, it's so stupid. The ACC should focus on sealing the deal with ND and picking off Penn State. Then try to pick up a couple more teams. If there's a merger to be had, it should be with the SEC. Then let the Big Ten and Pac 12 merge. But even that's dumb.

Unfortunately, I think we're watching the slow demise of college football.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's a good idea in this sense....

2

Feb 26, 2023, 9:07 PM

FSU and Clemson, and probably the majority of other ACC schools, see the demise of the ACC is near. So, anything they can use as a bargaining chip in the discussions as to how to make this feasible is a good thing.

Heck, maybe the end result will be 4 to 8 teams will leave the ACC, and 4 to 6 teams will leave the PAC 12. Then the remaining teams can merge - PAC 12 with Mountain West, ACC with AAC and the 4 of them can set up their own two conference alliance.

11PM EST kickoff at Corvallis would be dreadful***

Feb 26, 2023, 9:20 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That wouldn't happen...They would cater the games to...

1

Feb 27, 2023, 11:24 AM

Make sure cross-country matchups were decent for both teams.

Re: Anybody think this is a good idea?

Feb 27, 2023, 9:04 AM

Then you have Stanford along with the rest of the PAC and ACC (APAC) tell Notre Dame you are off the football schedule unless you join us. With all the big conferences at 9 or more conference games it would be difficult for ND to put together a Power 5 schedule. Only thing that will bring them into a conference just the way Covid did in 2020 when they needed help with their schedule.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

prolonging the inevitable....

Feb 27, 2023, 11:18 AM

probably short lived benefit for the conference as a with Clemson

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we are going to do this then drop BC and CUSE...

Feb 27, 2023, 11:23 AM

And pick up Washington and Oregon. That's a really easy pick up as far as conference revenue is concerned.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Anybody think this is a good idea?

Feb 27, 2023, 11:30 AM

Ultimately no. The travel involved would be horrendous and two of the biggest names in the Pac are leaving.. this is a desperate move. Credit them with trying to do something but seeing Wake Forest vs Arizona State is not going to move the needle.
