Haven't been in about seven years but....

Gary Danko - Take a big credit card. If you take a woman, she will probably marry you. At a minimum you should get lucky.

Farralons - Still expensive, but not quite as pricey as above - good seafood

Slanted Door - Thai food

Johnny Rockets - Burger joint - used to be on the Embarcadero

I remember a street vendor (somewhere closer to Pier 45 than Pier 39) that sold steamed whole crab (dungeness I think) very good.

My ghey nephew may still be out there.***

If you like sushi, there is a place in China town that has a floating sushi bar. It is pretty reasonably priced, and it is a pretty different kind of experience. The main downside was that I had no idea what I was ordering and no one spoke English. I am not sure if there is a Peggy Sue's in San Francisco, but there are a few around the area. It is an incredible diner. I lived in San Jose for about three months with work and worked across the street from one. I ate lunch there almost everyday and never got tired of it. Travel safe!
