The rise that our team as shown in the last few years to the very top of college football has awakened the other ACC member schools to the reality that the Atlantic Coast Conference can be a factor every year in the national picture.
I believe that some are saying .... IF Clemson can do it, so can we.
It is apparent to me that most of the other schools have upped their efforts to recruit better players an upgrade their facilities to try and compete with The Tigers. And the success is showing.
I’m not convinced that moving to another league is the answer. I would like to see the out of conference opponents change for our Tigers and the others as well. In reality ... that must happen . I think.
Am I out I left field with this thought? Take into account the other sports as well.
The ACC Really ain’t that bad.

The issue is and will continue to be money... if the ACC could magically figure out a way to compete with the TV contracts in the SEC and the BIG then there would be no reason to leave and I think most Clemson fans would be happy to stay in the ACC.
At this time the gap is just way too wide, Clemson nor anyone else in the ACC will be able to compete with the other two big conferences nationally.
Would love to stay, but the move that has to be made is to get out.

I totally agree with that. It’s always about money and it is getting worse. I have no idea how that one major problem can be resolved quickly. I’m also sure the powers that be are concerned about this. I also don’t know what kind of leverage they have to convince the tv networks to ante up to keep us intact.
We already knew this was a difficult situation to handle quickly. I think it will help if the league schools continue to improve so we need to see everyone be successful when they play out of league games.
I think the “relationship” that we have with Notre Dame needs to be addressed somehow.

Nobody watches the majority of teams in this league. They just can't draw big numbers. You'll never get networks to agree to ante up if people don't watch. Doesn't matter how competitive the league gets. Wake can be good every year. No one will watch them.
People need to also understand what Notre Dame does bring to the table. Part of the reason we get what we get now is bc of them. People watch ND no matter who they play. With this agreement ESPN knows they will get the Irish for a certain number of ACC games each year. That increases our TV value. Booting them would make it worse!

The SEC and BIG contracts are what they are because there is A LOT of demand for their product. Me personally, on a Saturday where I have nothing to do but watch College Football... Besides Clemson, I'm watching a lot more SEC football than ACC. By and large the games are better and the product as a whole is better. That said, who knows what the market demand really is for ACC football on TV because of the ridiculous Grant of Rights. The truth hurts but as a whole the Football brands in the SEC and BIG are better than the Football brands in the ACC.

The ACC stinks. The teams only care about basketball. The stadiums stink. No tradition sans a few schools. And most importantly, it’s not monetarily sustainable to stay in this purgatory of a conference.
It’s past time Clemson is rewarded for being a top 5 football program over a long period of time.

The ACC’s life span is probably short. I would prefer to be the first out the door. But I also have zero interest in donating $100 million to spend on an FCS-level league to buy them enough K-rations to survive a year or two.
But I also don’t believe that you believe we should stay. I think you’re just troublemaking, FT.

No. None of these schools have ever sustained even a few years of success. A blip here and there won’t change that. It’s not in their DNA.

All in regards to football....
I agree that some teams have likely said, IF Clemson can do it, so can we.
I agree that other schools have upped their efforts to recruit better players and upgrade their facilities to try and compete with The Tigers.
Are they showing success? Maybe. IMO, it's too early to know. What has another ACC team done, besides beating Clemson during it's worst few seasons in the last decade?
Have they made significant strides in improvement, or is any perceived success really just Clemson the last few years playing well below its standard it exhibited for the better part of the last decade?
As for leaving our conference, it is my opinion that leaving needs to happen. The ACC as we have known it, will soon be gone forever.
The conference will only get weaker. Most of the other teams in the conference won't be able to achieve in the new college football landscape, what Clemson has achieved in the last decade.

I don't think you're taking into account the new landscape of college football: NIL and the portal have professionalized the sport.
Cash is King, more so today than at any other time. Whereas ten years ago more money might get you a nicer scoreboard or football ops center, today more money gets you better players...and the market will define their value. This new world order puts ACC members at a massive disadvantage when they're going to be bringing in $40-$50M less than their SEC & B1G counterparts.

The only schools in the ACC that can realistically think that are UNC, NC State, Miami, and FSU. The rest is just wishful thinking.
