Who Is South Carolina?

Nov 3, 2014, 7:16 AM

In reading the posts commenting on who, hypothetically, South Carolina would hire to replace Steve Spurrier if when he decides to step down, I noticed an important point not brought up. That is, who is going to make the decision on Spurrier's replacement? Will it be left entirely up to Ray Tanner, or is the President going to lead this effort? How involved will their BOT be involved or their major donors?
Personally, I think there are going to be too many cooks in the kitchen resulting in a fiasco which I will enjoy observing.

it has to be a stepping stone job, coaches seeing that even

slurrier the great can't get it done there then nobody will be able to. It is a very unattractive job and the only reason slurrier took it was to boost his ego and do a lot of "firsts" at a place that was easy to do them at because they had never done anything.

in this area so I suspect the University would hire a headhunting search firm to take the lead in filling any head football coaching vacancy.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I cannot stand Spurrier, but he won at Duke and UF

he is a great coach, but even he has done nothing at scar except get some good regular season wins along with some mediocre bowls.

If that is all he can achieve, then any coach coming in there cannot expect to do anything more. That is not a job where you will be successful. There is a reason that is the last stop for coaches.
