'23-'24 Basketball - What if...

I was just watching the sporta segment on the local news, and the reporter mentioned that 'zona has been in the top ten most of the year. That made me think - what if Clemson had won games that we lost that we could have and probably should have won against teams like

GT
UVA
VT
Miami
Notre Dame
NC State (before their most recent uptick)
Wake Forest
BC (worst loss of the year)

Turn those five of those L's into W's, and where would we have been ranked? Top ten? Maybe. Definitly in the top 15, all year. This team has the talent to have done that pretty easily, to win five of those seven games against average to good teams.

That's what is the most frustrating thing about Brownell's teams historically. Several times they've left us saying "if only..."

That said, I'm happy with the way this team has performed in the NCAA tournament so far. and I hope that we can see a team that OVERACHIEVES at the end and makes the Elite 8.

But this is also true for almost every basketball team this year.

Legit, college basketball is one of the most parity driven sports right now. Even Arizona lost to Oregon State and Stanford (both finished at the bottom of the Pac 12 this year).

I think we should've gone at least .500 against the teams you listed so I get it but it's not an exclusive Clemson problem.

Anyhow, +1 on your ending. Hope we shock folks and punch a ticket to the Elite 8

Who knows? We might have even been in the sweet 16***

And we might have won the ACC Tournament for the first time...

and we might have been a 2-seed, playing a 6-seed to make it to the Elite 8 instead of having to beat a 2 seed to get there. Winning has it's perks.

I'm glad that we beat the 11-seed who was favored over us as a 6-seed. And I am very happy with the way we beat a very good Baylor team with clutch free throws. As a Clemson basketball fan who's been around watching since the days of Tree Rollins, Skip Wise, David Angel and Stan Rome, that is especially satisfying.

The reason people have been so down on Brownell for so long is that his teams are notoriously inconsistent and they falter down the stretch, thereby missing the dance. This season is a refreshing deviation from the norm. Everybody gotta DV8 from the norm.

The only loss I want overturned is the Duke loss.

Would have made zero difference as we would still be in the sweet 16 this weekend

In an earlier post, I mentioned that just winning a couple of the really bad losses could have made this a great season (prior to the NCAAT). Winning the GT and ND games would have changed the ACCT seeding, we'd have been #3 or #4 with double-bye.

Will be rooting for a Final Four trip, even if it means a 20-year extension for Brownell.
