Youngest daughter goes in for surgery tomorrow

10
75

Jan 4, 2023, 4:53 PM

Will be our first experience with a child having surgery and it hasn’t been easy ever since finding out she had to have it done. She’s four and she’s always had trouble controlling her right eye when she’s focusing it will jump left/right. Her eye doctor always said she should grow out of it but now the time has come where surgery is her best option. Luckily it hasn’t and shouldn’t affect her vision they’ll be going in to repair/strengthen her eye muscles and it’s supposed to be a routine quick surgery but doesn’t make it any easier. Anyway sorry for the long post but just keep us in your prayers tomorrow will be a rough day.

Prayer's friend. May she be comfortable and pull through with ease. Prayers for your entire family.

Thank you!!! That is what we are hoping for, they said she might not open her eyes the day after surgery so just hoping she can be as comfortable as possible.

Eye surgery is usually not that bad. True. When l had it, l had to go back to totally make things 100%. But the worst part is being tired. And taking a good nap when you get home.

It'll be o.k.

Mjc ..... will definitely pray for your precious daughter. My 5 year old grandson had to got o Miami this past summer for a gene therapy operation in each eye that without doing would have resulted in eventual blindness. The surgery not only corrected the problem but cured the disease. He and his parents spent three weeks in Miami as they did one eye at a time and had to wait a week between each surgery. He is doing great as will your daughter.

I'll mention this too. Young folks handle this sort of stuff much better than we do. My grandson thought the 3 weeks in Miami was a vacation and I can promise you that he got just about everything he wanted within reason those 3 weeks ..... lots of pizza and ice cream for every meal.

Our son had what sounds like the same surgery when he was 6 years old. That was 30 years ago. I am sure the surgery has gotten even better since then. It was successful and he had no issues following surgery. I know it is hard sending your child into surgery, but they really take such good care of children. I will certainly say a prayer for a good outcome for your daughter. I know she is in good hands.

my experience may not apply to your daughter's,but it's worth keeping in mind.about 20 plus years ago i was having trouble with double vision.went to the docs and got diagnosed with ocular myasthenia gravis,an auto-immune thing that affects the muscles that control eye movement and synchronization.was put on prednisone for a while, and it made my vision normal.eventually i was weaned off the medication, but i still had episodes every once in a while.now during this time i was drinking a lot of diet drinks and chewing sugarless gum.when i stopped both of those things, the double vision stopped completely.i studiously avoid anything with artificial sweetners.like i said,my circumstance may not apply to your little girl's,but it's worth checking on and keeping in mind.hope all goes well for her and your family.

Re: Youngest daughter goes in for surgery tomorrow

Jan 6, 2023, 3:41 PM

@Mjc3194 Unfortunately my little girl now 18 had at least 5 surgeries, I lost count on helping with the bladder refluxing back in to her kidneys. Was sick all the time with no solutions until they ran the correct test. Just not sure at this time what or if any damage has been done to the kidneys. Time will tell was far as the actual growth.

On to her eye issues and I’m not sure what it is called but we had her in for an eye exam and the dr. stopped and told us to see a specialist. Her problem was for example when reading she would get to the end of a line and struggled to find the next line. It’s got a name but I do not remember and not sure if this is the same thing. We seen this specialist I’m guessing for 3 years working with her doing eye therapy and then she had to do so much of it at home.

Needless to say between the kidneys and her eyes she was way behind the other kids her age. Her mom and I are now divorced and I do not get to see her as much but it still breaks my heart knowing she thinks she is not as smart as other people. Just little comments she will make to let you know that she knows she thinks she is not smart. All I can do is encourage but dealing with your kids and watching them go through that kind of thing is tough. Watching them probe and prod on her in the hospital including being catheterized was about more than I could take. Prayers for you man it’s tough but you will make it. If you need anything TMail me and I will definitely do what I can.
