No. They are better than BC. They are really good against the run and have one standout CB.

No, they're defensive line is incredible. Their linebackers are fantastic as well, but I'll be curious to see them in space when we spread them out and make them empty out the box a little bit.
Our screen game will need to be on point to slow down their pass rush. I have confidence in our offensive line, but running the ball will be paramount. I'm hoping our screens will slow down their linebackers at the second level to open up some room for Wayne, and I'd like to see a good dose of Zach Brooks, he's a powerful straight-line runner like Gallman.

Even from a 3-4 base, roughly 80% of the defensive sets are from a nickel package; five DB's all of whom have played corner.
IF you happened to have watched the game Thursday night you'd have seen the basic set had four rushing, five playing underneath, with two deep. When you combine that with the type of athletes, then add in the scheme employed, you'd be hard pressed to find another defense in the Power 5 that similar. It's a unique defense.
The catch in facing it is a QB who can improvise passing and running. Watson fits that bill.

DO you think you guys will continue to run nickel? Or will you move to more 4-3 look and blitz more with bigger bodies?
Maybe nickel would be better, and bring 2 extra rushers and leave 3 under and keep 2 high.
I think the athletes are probably more important than even the scheme as you guys seem to shed blocks better than any D weve played and thats what jumps off the screen to me.

Tbh all season the tigers have had no choice but to run "nickel" but bringing jayron Kearse/TJ green into the box is going to be the solution. Neither are small both are right at 6'4 220 and can run and hit.
My belief is the formation will be:
Tj green deep at Fs towards the side with two wrs or wr and TE they throw to.
Man up on the outsides with Mack and Tank. Carter/Baker inside on the slot a few yards off.
Kearse outside the DE about 2-3 yards off the ball, to the open side of the field.
Everything else standard.

No doubt they'll continue to run in a nickel formation. It's been the set the defense has been in for 80% of the games for years now. There's only three games this season when the defense played from the base 3-4; Wisky, Arkansas, and LSU.
In the nickel, they're lining up with two DE's, a NT, and the fourth defensive lineman is one of the linebackers. It looks a lot like a Nickel 40.

The screen game will only be as good as the blocking by the wrs. Bama plays the screens super aggressive, I'd like to see Leggett or Peake sneak out on a wheel route after faking a screen block.
Also this Bama defense is the best front 7 the tigers have seen. However they are big, very big which means if DW4 can keep some long drives going they will be gassed. Outside runs and screens likely won't result in big gains at first but if they stick to it eventually Bama will crack. The major weakness of this year's Bama team is their safeties and corner(they have one decent corner) their Secondary flat out sucks believe it or not they struggled to keep up with Mich St wrs (who aren't very athletic) and had a couple of PI calls and a bunch that weren't called. Connor Cook isn't very good at understanding where the blitz vacated coverage. DW4 most underrated quality is his mind. Cook felt what I call "ghost pressure" because he saw the blitz coming but didn't realize he wasn't in danger. Cook played scared. The game was 10-0 at half and should have been 10-7 cook throwing that pick killed any shot. The MSU defense which isn't deep died. Clemson might be more reckless than MSU but they are vastly more talented and deep.
The only thing that worries me is tackling in space has been spotty, Kiffin runs the screen game like no other before hitting you deep. If those screens get 4-5 yds a pop then Henry can get 3-4yds the next play.

Closest example has to be LSU. They have extremely fast defensive linemen and a speedy secondary. But their secondary isn't as big as ours. With two safeties that are 6'3" and 6'4", we will have a size advantage that most teams in the country don't in our secondary.
Their receiver Ridley is really good, but I think Mack can cover him. It's their tight end that worries me. Howard isn't flashy and probably won't have a career at the next level, but he always, always, always seems to be in the right place when they call on him.
Our defensive line, particularly our tackles, will have to have a tremendous game. Rotating players to will important to keep everyone fresh because they're going to run, run, run and then hit us with play-action shots down the field. If we bite on the fake, Coker's just good enough to put the ball where it needs to be. They like to go over the top, I think that's why our size will be a factor in breaking up passes that a 6'0 safety couldn't reach. Think back to the tipped ball in the Orange Bowl as an example.

Ole Miss might be the closest in terms of DL talent

I really think Ole Miss is a poor man's Clemson this year, with the one big difference being that Clemson's rushing attack is much better than theirs.

We surely can't have drops, everything has to count. Peake and Leggett has to catch everything that touches their hands. It'll take an A+ game on our part. Tempo and pace gives them trouble.

I swear to Heysus, you guys need to lay off ESPiN. We've beaten four top ten teams. Bama lost to a team that isn't ranked in the top ten.
Bama put's their pants on the same way as everyone else, one leg at a time. ESPiN sleeps in their pants so the boogie man from the SEC won't get them.

ClemsonTiger88: Congrats for seeing reality! some of the guys on here are all ESPNed up! Question is: Who has Bama played that has an offense even close to our with a QB in the same league as Watson? Answer. NO ONE. Second, who have they faced with a defense that is as good as ours. Answer NO ONE. Sure they've got lots of talent but we will wear them down and then put them to sleep. We win by 10-20 (which is exactly what i said re the Sooners) because we are a much tougher team than Bama with just as much talent. An one who thinks different simply has not been watching the 20125-2016 Tigers.

I certainly think Watson is unique. But, I also know there are comparisons that can be made to Tennessee's Dodd, Mississippi State's Prescott, and Florida's Harris.
When it comes to defense? Come on, now. Clemson has a good one. It's back up by finishing ranked #7 in total defense. However, Alabama has played three in the top ten in the same category.
There certainly reason to prop up the Clemson defense. Trying to do so at the expense of some of the teams Bama has faced this year doesn't hold water. Hell, look no further than the Florida vs South Carolina game a few weeks prior to your teams meetings as one example.

Treon Harris has nothing in common with Deshaun except that he also happens to play quarterback for a college team.
Prescott reminds me of Jacoby Brissett, he's big, strong, and can throw it when he has to. But his accuracy isn't on the same level as Deshaun's, or his decision-making. If it was, Mississippi State wouldn't have been in the Belk Bowl, but I digress.
We haven't played a team that runs the same offense as Alabama, at least not with the same level of execution. The Crimson Tide win games at both lines of scrimmage, that's been Nick's philosophy at every job he's ever had. They have five road graders on the offensive line and a couple of tight ends and a fullback who can block, too.
Florida State runs a similar pro-style attack, but their receivers are more talented than Alabama's most years, with the exception of a superstar like Julio Jones or Cooper. Cook is a talented running back, possibly pound-for-pound the best back in the country. But the FSU offensive line can't block like Alabama can, especially when you consider Florida State has 4 freshmen on their front.
Clemson's offense will test Alabama unlike anyone they've played this year because of Watson's ability to run and throw. He's as fast as any receiver on our team, but if he needs to use his arm, he's just as comfortable throwing the ball. When you watch Watson play, he makes it appear effortless and his demeanor is unmatched in college football, I think it's his best attribute, especially for a young man of his age.

Both Watson and Harris are considered to be dual threat QB's. The comparison is mobility.
As far as Prescott is concerned, his accuracy isn't on the same level as Watson's? Prescott has 29 TD's this season with five INT's. Watson is sitting at 31 and 12 respectively. Watson's completion percentage is two percentage points better than Prescott's.
Mississippi State's issues are traditional. It's very rare for then to field a team with a star player and a supporting cast.

Florida's D beat Bama in 1st half, the only reason Florida
Jan 2, 2016, 11:33 AM
[ in reply to Re: Yes, I think everybody uses 11 men on defense. ] |

lost was due to their crappy 3 and out Offense. No D can last 4 quarters when they are on the field 75% of the game.
Bama won't get that advantage in this game. Bama will have to score more than 40 and will have to do it against a Florida-like D that is not plain wore out in the second half. The odds favor Clemson on this one.

I think the key to a Clemson victory. Is the wrs have to catch the ball. We cant have any drops. And no turnovers. Alabama will shut down the run at least early on. Maybe gallman and Watson can run it some. In the 4th Qtr. The passing game has to be spot on in this game for us to win. And I think it will be. So I pick. Clemson 31 Alabama 21
I think Clemson is just 10pts better then Alabama. . Go tigers!!!

This, by far, will be the best defense we will have faced. Coaches are going to have to be smart, have patience, and make adjustments. We are more than capable of winning, but make no mistake, this will be the best defense we've played. On the flip side, this will be the best offense they've played too. Same holds true on the other side of the ball. These are the two best teams in the country.

2 keys to wearing them down IMO.
First 2.5 qtrs will need to spread and keep them running side to side to wear down those big boys and open the lanes for the Wayne Train.
Leggett has to get off DE's, LB's, and DB's with clean releases and catch the ball. If he is spread out, no reason why quick slants aren't there all game.

I'd say no. They have 6 or 7 NFL-caliber defensive lineman that they can rotate in all game in different packages. This will be the truest test our offensive line has seen to date. But I've also ready multiple reports throughout the year that a true mobile, duel-threat QB like Deshuan is their worst nightmare. It should be a game for the ages!
