I agree, as much as he did and didn't get the attention. Great player. We might have lost the OSU if it was not for him.

I believe he was either a 2 or 3 star***

Whatever you do, always give 100%.....unless it's donating blood

YEp, give me a 2-3 Star player who has grit & desire & wants

Jan 15, 2014, 10:27 AM

to hit the field with the passion to win..has some good natural athletic ability..And I'll take a dozen of them over a lazy self-centered 4-5* player who's got the "what's in it for me & my NFL career" attitude.

Rivals and Scout both had him as 3 stars.***

Agree he completely changed our defense

Jan 15, 2014, 10:36 AM

But we need LBs who can lay wood and still cover lots of ground. Unfortunately his lack of overall speed probably lost us the coot game. I'd trade it for all the games he won us but I'm not sure most would.

Most of Shuey's stars were those he made players see.***

Star ratings and recruiting hype are mostly nonsense.***

They were spot on. He was a 3-Star, which means

Jan 15, 2014, 11:13 AM

"three-stars is a top 750 level player", but more specifically he had a numerical rating of 5.7, which means "5.7-5.5 All-Region Selection; considered among the region's top prospects and among the top 750 or so prospects in the country; high-to-mid-major prospect; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team". The next highest rating (5.8 to 6.0 was for All-American candidates, which, as it turns out, would have been a little too high for Shuey).

There is probably some misconception

Jan 15, 2014, 11:15 AM

b/c he's white. It's always going to be assumed he is not as naturally athletic and makes up for it with "grit" and "hard work". That's the same tire cliche as hearing the opposite said about black QB's. Like either can just be described with one swipe of the brush. While Shuey is very hardworking and gritty, he is extremely big, fast, and strong. Considering he had more size than any of the recruits ahead of him, including T'eo, he was only recruited by Marshall, Wake, Kentucky and Duke. What a sham that is - There is clearly some prejudice against white kid's athletic abilities making them under-recruited.

I'm proud that Clemson "went out on a limb" for him b/c he is amazing and will be a good NFL LB. I'm calling it now.

I thought he had some pretty good offers. If you remember, he blew up the Shrine Bowl and got a lot of offers afterward including Clemson. I think he was the Defensive MVP for NC.

Pretty easy to look up using something called Google.***
