Big Recruiting Update

May 17, 2021, 9:54 AM

It has been almost a week since our last update and recruiting does not stop, so let's stop wasting time and get started.

-I have said on multiple occasions that one part of Clemson's board that has yet to crystallize is DE. One guy that Clemson has been on longer than anyone is DE Jihaad Campbell. Campbell recently jumped over 300 spots in 247's last rankings update, but one of their scouts said that may not even be high enough for him after watching IMG's Spring Game. Remember that Campbell plans on coming to Clemson on June 8th. Other teams involved are Georgia, Texas A&M, Florida, and Oklahoma.

-In my last update I talked about Clemson's running back situation where they have only offered two guys. First ,Branson Robinson plans on attending the Elite Retreat as I have told you multiple times and Georgia remains the favorite and will get the first visit in June. There is a recent feeling; however, that if Robinson comes out of that weekend uncommitted it is game on between Clemson, Bama, and UGA. Clemson has been on him longer than anyone and CJ has been putting work in here, good signs in that recruitment.

-I also mentioned Clemson target Trevor Etienne. I said that he had not advancement his recruitment in months and while a lot of people liked LSU, I thought that they had a few guys higher, and it would be who out of LSU, Clemson, UGA, and Bama made a push for him would have the best shot. Well he now plans on being at the Elite Retreat. LSU is not expected to get a visit which is obviously very significant. Alabama plans on getting a camp date while UGA may also get one as well. Now we have a better picture for who is pushing.

- I told y'all last week, before any other service, that in state class of 23" OT Monroe Freeling was going to camp at Clemson on June 11th. Now his teammate Jacob Ashley will camp on the very same day. Another in state OT Markee Anderson will visit Clemson on June 5th.

-Another class of 23" QB will make there way to Clemson on June 2nd in Cameron Edge out of Md. As of now he only has camp dates scheduled to Clemson and Ohio State.

-A class of 23" WR that has caught Clemson's attention is Braylon James out of Texas. He plans on visiting Clemson in late July. Other schools appear to be higher right now but Clemson has not pushed. I have also mentioned Nathaniel Joseph as a guy that Clemson has had their eye on. He and his teammates plan on checking Clemson out on June 11th, just a changed date there.

-Speaking of 23" WR. The state of NC seems to have a freak in it next class in Noah Rogers. Rogers will camp at Clemson on June 6th. UNC and NC State have pushed early there.

-Another name to watch at RB for this cycle is Demond Claiborne out of Virginia. His season was cut short so he has limited exposure but nonetheless he has caught Clemson's attention and plans on camping here at a date TBD.

-Another DE from this class has made plans to camp at Clemson in hopes of securing an offer. Mario Eugenio out of Florida will camp at Clemson on June 2nd and UGA later that week before official visits to Iowa State and Michigan.

-Last update I said that Clemson wants to take a kicker and the #2 overall kicker Will Bettridge was camping at Clemson June 4th. I told you another name to know was the #1 overall kicker Alex McPherson. McPherson plans on camping at Clemson,on June 4th or 5th as of now. His brother, who played at Florida, was just drafted the 5th round and he has strong ties to Auburn, so this one would be difficult.

-Class of 23" QB Dante Moore out of Michigan expressed interest in visiting Clemson this Summer, along with a number of other schools. Big time talent that Clemson would love to get to a camp.

-READ: I had previously told y'all that Jaren Kanak out of Kansas was getting a serious look at Clemson to fill the LB spot. Kanak posted a 10.3 100m time making him one of the fastest players in any position, and that has Clemson and a lot teams interested as his stock has blown up recently. I can tell you; however, that if Clemson were to offer it may be a commit on the spot type of deal. He will be at Clemson June 1st in hopes of getting an offer. He has the potential to play safety purely based on his speed as well.

-Have a great week Tigernation.

Thanks again, or all the updates.

Last night I was checking the 247 CBs and noted Wiltfong had given a CB to Clemson for Kanak. Rivals has him as a 3*** but 247 has recently moved him up to a 4****. I had forgotten you had mentioned him in one of your earlier posts. He is shown as an ATH. 6'-2", and 210 lbs.

Re: Big Recruiting Update

May 17, 2021, 11:32 AM

Hey Joe, I would expect that Wiltfong, like me, believes that if Clemson were to offer he would commit which is why he put in that CB. As far as his rank I think that he is a low to medium 4* right now. He is a very interesting prospect who may be a little rough around the edges, but has the tools. He is a guy I would not mind to take a flyer on. I know that he is listed as ATH, but most schools are recruiting him at LB, Clemson mainly sees him there, but they are also interested in trying him at safety purely based on his speed.

Paw would Muse be a good comparison on the type of player Kanak could be? With that frame seems like he might be able to pack on a few good pounds and end up in that 220 to 230 range. Provided he can keep that speed of course.

Re: Big Recruiting Update

May 17, 2021, 1:21 PM

Hey Saul everyone is going to say Isiah Simmons simply because they both are from Kansas and are fast, but I think that you hit the nail on the head with that comp. When you watch him play he is a faster version of Muse with the same body type, which is why I think that it would be cool to watch him play OLB, with that pure speed and the frame to be able to get guys to the ground. We are after better pure safeties, so I would like to see him at backer.

Nice updates, and sorry if you've answered this before,

May 17, 2021, 10:45 AM

but how are you getting this info? Where a kid "intends" on camping or "wants" to visit seems like info that would often only be known by the kid, his parents, his coaches, and the coaches at the camp school.

I promise I'm not trying to be rude, I just inherited a healthy dose of my old man's skepticism.

Re: Nice updates, and sorry if you've answered this before,

May 17, 2021, 10:59 AM

He obviously can't tell you where he gets any of his info or he would not longer be getting information.

There have been several posters previously that gave Tigernet similar information to what we are getting from Paw. It typically comes from hard work and comparing sources and maybe a few good connections.

I would imagine the guys who post it to Tigernet are having to fill in some blanks in their info at times along the way.

Instead of being skeptical that he is giving 100% accurate updates for every single prospect, please just try to appreciate that we are getting any info at all.

Even if less than half of the stuff that he is posting is completing accurate it's MUCH better than having the boards completely blank of any information on recruiting.

Recruiting posters have been chased away from TNET in the past because they are wrong about a commitment or a visit and nobody will let it go.

Please just enjoy that Paw is taking a lot of time out of his weeks to keep us updated and understand that nobody truly knows a 16-17 year old athlete's true intentions, so don't blast him when some information turns out to be a little off.

Hey man, it is kind of like Tigers O said I can not tell you where I get all of my stuff; however, I can give you an example. Just this weekend I was able to get on a Q and A with Jihaad Campbell through Instagram. I came away from that interview very confident in Clemson's chances with him Keon Sabb, and Pride, but I did not include that because I try to provide y'all with only accurate information that I can verify, that would be a personal feeling. I understand the skepticism and as the month of June plays out, you are more than welcome to check to see how accurate I am regarding visit dates, chances with guys, etc. I will not be right every time with nature of high school kids but somewhere above 90% is what I would except.

Re: Big Recruiting Update

May 17, 2021, 12:58 PM

Hey Paw,

What's your thoughts on WR Tetairoa McMillan, he is obviously expressing his interest in Clemson and has ties to DJU and his Coach. Sounds like he is definite commit if offered. Any news about camping.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Big Recruiting Update

May 17, 2021, 1:28 PM

I really like McMillan. He is the type of guy that Clemson generally goes for being a bigger WR. I have not heard anything about McMillan camping at this point. Clemson's lone offer out is Brenen Thompson, and then you have two other guys who are begging for an offer in Antonio Williams and Andre Greene Jr who are going to camp. IMO you offer Williams and Greene Jr. after they camp. Greene Jr, is lower ranked than McMillan, but they have similar frames, and I may just like Greene Jr better. And then I can not say enough about the in-state guy Williams, would love to see an offer there as well. So, I would say that if Clemson offers two out of those 3 McMillan would be the last that I would offer, IMO.

Thanks for the question hope that helps.

Re: Big Recruiting Update

May 17, 2021, 1:42 PM [ in reply to Re: Big Recruiting Update ]

Yep, thanks. I agree Williams appears to be a stud. His recruiting has seemed to be a little weird for him if you ask me. My only explanation is that he is a late bloomer and the Covid pause. You read great reviews but they are few between, then other reviews seem to just mention him without much praise. Maybe he is intentionally keeping out of the recruiting hooplah.

I like McMillan after watching film and then add the DJU connection, I am a fan of great recruiting stories and in addition I like the continuing West Coast connection even if player maybe a little raw. That is really a new recruiting source for us that does produce some great players.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Big Recruiting Update

May 17, 2021, 3:31 PM

Williams has been very open about wanting an offer from Clemson, attending the Spring Game etc. I also know a guy up in Va., and from what he has told me Greene Jr. is also very interested in Clemson. Would be tough one to say no to according to him, UGA and UNC are pushing there right now.

-I would also love to keep that Cali pipeline going. We may need to use that DJU connection on some of these class of 23" QBs out there, they all seem really talented.

How you are not 100% on Tnet is amazing. I appreciate you not just posting more than a one line twitter thing

Post more and expand beyond recruiting.

Would be nice to expand. Others have suggested a column but he or she may not have time. It takes a ton of work to assemble the info. Also answers everyone's questions... Which is rare.

I like the kid out of Kansas. The last decade, backers have moved to being more speed and athletic at all levels of football. It's not going back imo.

Anyway, Paw already has a little TD fairy it seems. Ashamed because I can't think a Clemson fan wouldn't enjoy every nugget of info. Good stuff as always!

I note that about 5:00 PM the OP has received a couple of TDs. I can't understand why anyone would give a TD to any thing in the post. The only reason I would conclude is that these TDs must have come from a coot filled with envy re our recruiting success.

Re: Who would you guess, is out next %* commitment?***

May 18, 2021, 10:00 AM

Thanks Colbert, if you are asking who the next commit might be that is always difficult to say. I would pick Jaren Kanak personally. Simply because he is going to be on campus on June 1st, as I said in this thread he seems like the type of guy who could commit on spot, so if an offer went out that would certainly be a possibility. Next I would say Lukus, the CB from Mauldin, after the Elite Retreat. By that point he would have seen both UNC and Clemson and he would be ready to commit to whichever one he chooses, UNC or Clemson. Then if the in-state receiver Antonio Williams gets an offer at any point during June, he could also pull the trigger.

Re: Thanks CP, any 5 stars close to pulling the trigger?***

May 18, 2021, 2:48 PM

Well according to 247 Lukus is a 5*, and he would be the closet one to a decision right now. Clemson is also heavily involved with 5* CB Daylen Everette, but a decision is not on the horizon right now. 5* Safety Keon Sabb will also be at the Retreat, and Clemson has done a nice job there. Then you have all the D-Lineman that could be, 5* DE Jeremiah Alexander will be at Clemson on June 1st but a decision is not likely until the Fall. Clemson also wants 5* DTs Gabe-Dindy and Travis Shaw on campus in June, but nothing there yet, and they will not decide until later. Also worth seeing how high RB Target Branson Robinson rises, as I see his stock rising same thing with Cade, but I see most of them being on defense.
