It's fine. For every Ty Cobb there's a Lou Gehrig.

IMHO, it all began with Wrestling and the WWF or whatever that mess is called with the trash talking and belligerence, putdowns and lack of sportsmanship and fed over into all sports and society as a whole. It is a shame that the kids have these foul mouthed athletes as roll models but they do. Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio. A Nation turns its lonely eyes to you!

Parenting!!! There was some big youth function at local bowling alley Sat night, most the kids were probably 12-16yrs old and a huge number were walking the grounds in groups starting fights after 10pm. Of course there were 10-12 cop cars around trying to keep peace. Lots of groups were going into local restaurants, where I had ran to for some quick chinese takeout, but every other word out of all their mouth was some sort of profanity.
They didnt care if they were in public restaurant, in parking lot beside cops, wherever they were slinging foul language. There were 12-15 kids in the chinese restaurant, they were cussing the workers, wouldn't move out of entrance to let other customers easy access in and out. I told them to show some respect. While some piped down, others had to laugh and showout, being little punks.
If I acted like that when I was 12-15, my dad would have taken me behind the woodshed and taught me some real quick respect.

In my day we recited the little league creed before every game. One of the lines said ‘keep your pride under in victory and keep a stout heart in defeat’. Translation, don’t gloat when you win, don’t boohoo when you lose. That’s how we children were raised and taught. Boy, has that gone out the window!

It’s about showing respect for your opponent. Manners. Is that such a foreign concept to you?

Sure isn’t but I choose not to take the fun out of the game. Trash talking is part of it.

Survey, if you watch the actions of pro athletes following a big play or a bad call, do you think they stopped acting like children just because their bodies grew up? I’m thinking they started act out during their teen years and nobody helped them put it in check.

It used to be that a Coach would sit down his star player for antics and the Parents would stop by and shake his hand after the game and thank him. It has evolved to that same coach losing his job and being banished from society for hurting some blankwads feelings.

We had a long time, multiple state championships, coach retire early because parents were coming up to him during games and complaining their child wasn’t getting enough playing time.
