John Chavis TN and LSU

Jul 5, 2013, 5:43 PM

I just watched the 2004 Peach Bowl of our win over TN (which came after 63-17 #### whooping in Cola). I totally forgot the DC was Chavis. We beat his D again this year vs LSU. I bet he hates us now. Another tidbit- he's from Dillon,SC.

We came very close to having him as our DC in 2009

It's my understanding that the time that it took to iron out a deal to hire Dabo permanently and then finish negotiations for assistant coaching salary levels went on past the time that he could afford to wait with an offer from LSU sitting on the table.

Also, I think Dabo held off a bit while Ellis Johnson attempted without success to get out of his contract in Columbia.

Both those statements should be classed as rumors by the way. I have no inside sources.

Interesting...I hadn't heard those. Where is Ellis Johnson now?

Ellis Johnson is starting his first season as DC at Auburn

He was head coach at Southern Miss (I think) for one year.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Yes, I met his sister numerous times while delivering at the company she worked for she was head of the receiving dept. this was probably 4 or 5 years ago down in Dillon but a very nice lady....

Kevin Steele is from Dillon also. And Ben Bernanke.

I always thought Chavis was a very experienced DC, and simply did not want to report to a young, inexperienced HC like Dabo.

Chavis is still a very good DC - and so is Ellis. Both are good choices just like Venables. For me - I'm happy with Venables right now. I expect his D to win us some games this year that we would otherwise lose.

My interest started out low, but has started

to rise a little over this Ben Bernanke fellow. Where does he coach now? Are we bullish on him?

"I've played multiple sports and would bet any amount that I'm still more athletic than you at this present time...."

His style will only lead to inflated numbers!***
