Wake UNC non conference game

What a bad year to have this game for Tiger fans. I was hoping for maybe a loss setting up a huge huge home game for the tigers

Not the game to worry about…..

It’s pretty simple at this point. N.C. State needs to beat Wake and drop 2 other games. Then we would have tiebreaker over Wake if we win out. Unfortunately a 3 way tie in that case sends NCSU to the championship game…so they have to lose 2 more. NCSU travels to FSU this week…they still have Cuse (who seems to be decent) and UNC. The Noles have a chance at home if they are up for it…kind of like Miami did. UNC may have enough to do the job on NCSU…but we’ll have to wait a bit on that one. That seems more likely than BC beating Wake…in any case.
But the hardest part is whether we’ll get it done against Louisville and Wake. Hopefully so.
If FSU somehow beats NCSU Saturday….the chances for the ACCCG slightly increase…but if not, it’s going from improbable to impossible.
If we win out and are 9-3….we’ll get a decent bowl game…will have to look those up, it’s been a while.

For Clemson to get into the ACC Championship game (of course, the pre-condition is that we beat both Louisville & W.Forest ... hardly anything but a certainty):
NC State has to lose 2 games among their 4 remaining non-Clemson opponents.
W.Forest has to lose 1 game among their 3 remaining non-Clemson opponents.
My guess is that FSU can beat NC.State down in Tallahassee (but FSU has got to stop making stupid mistakes like they did when gifting us the victory on Saturday). Then I figure that W.Forest has a better chance of beating NC.State than anyone else on the remainder of the NC.State schedule.
W.Forest's schedule is easier (outside of us) ... my fingers are crossed that UNC can figure out a way to block well enough to score some points against Wake's mediocre defense. Yeah, I know I know ... wishful thinking.
Maybe Syracuse can pull off a miracle and beat somebody ... which obviously be an enormous help!

Wake losing this weekend being ooc game doesn't help us. NC State can beat wake. The big game is FSU and NC State. No other realistic chances if they beat FSU because wake isn't losing to BC. And State won't lose to Cuse. If state beats FSU, then they'd have to lose to wake and UNC.., and I don't see them losing both. Jmho.

Again..Wake vs UNC is non-conference, doesn’t matter….

We actually need State to beat Wake…unless you think BC can do it. And then State has to lose 2 others…seems to me that at FSU and UNC are possibilities for them. Wake beating State doesn’t help us at this point…unless you are counting on BC….not sure that is wise. But Wake/UNC is really only meaningful for Wake fans and rankings this year.

It is still a huge game. If we can beat Louisville this week, we can still be 9-3. After we lost to NC State, it was unlikely we could make the ACC Championship game. I may be old and took old fashioned math but 9 is still a higher number than 8.

What a horrible year for UNC to schedule Wake as an out of conference game. Of course, this entire situation is caused by the lack of playing non division/non rivalry opponents the division system creates.

Agreed. The new commish needs to at least find a way to correct Swofford's division mess and put the four NC schools in the South with Clemson, GT and FSU. Miami can go in the North with the other six and most of their old Big East Rivals.

I would keep Miami south and send Duke to north, most of their students are from that part of the country anyway…

LOL. Most of Miami's is from New York and the Northeast too I think. If Mizzou in the East works for the SEC then something like that would work for ACC directional divisions too.

Actually the Wake UNC could matter to Clemson. IF Clemson wins out and are in a 3 way tie with wake and ncst the highest ranked team will be declared the division winner I believe. Wake losing to unc could help the tigers pass wake in the rankings. All scenarios are a long shot for Clemson but there is still a path

Not really…

If State beats Wake, drops one and still finishes 6-2….they would have the tiebreaker over Wake & us by virtue of beating both teams.
Only way it might help is a 3 way tie where BC beats Wake…but if we are winning out and Wake drops 2 in a row…they will drop like a rock in the rankings and we would have jumped back in. But State could still be up there in the rankings if they have only lost one more. The 3 way tie scenarios are not good for us.
Of all the things that need to happen (Clemson winning out, State dropping 2 but beating Wake, etc…)…BC beating Wake seems like the least likely.

That 3 way doesn’t work either. WF would be eliminated

By being 4-2 in the Atlantic while NCSU and Clemson would be 5-1. Once WF is eliminated the tiebreakers start over and NCSU gets us in the head to head. Once WF beat Duke(finished with Coastal games), there is no 3 way possibility that favors us. State has to lose 3 or more games. WF has to lose 2 including us. We have to win the remaining 2 league games. I still think State will be 4-4 or 5-3. WF losing a 2nd is going to be our bigger problem (along with us winning the last 2). Theoretically - if we knock their qb out, there is a good chance they don’t beat BC.

Dude them scheduling this game as a non-comference

Game this year is a product of UNC not being on their conf schedule this year to begin with not the other way around. If WF wasn’t playing them they would be playing Vandy or Rice or NW more than likely. By scheduling UNC - better opponent, better $, better TV, revisit an instate rivalry instead of once every 10 years or so. Either way WF conference schedule was already set - their Coastal opponents were permanent opponent Duke and rotating opponent UVA - just like ours were permanent opponent GT and rotating opponent Pitt
