Brockmeyer seeks again. Recruiting continues 4 more years. Some of these kids get calls as 8th graders and 8 years later still getting calls from coaches up until they graduate.

We recruited him back when he signed with The Elephants. Maybe there is interest from both parties again.

I am completely against getting guys from the portal, unless there is an emergency, like we are out of punters etc. If we tell our players to believe in the process we don't undercut them with random transfers who are not even part of the process. I would rather stick with our guys.

If we don't get players from the portal in 2-3 years over half our team will be freshmen and we'll be trying to compete against teams that could be 70% Juniors and Seniors thanks to the portal. That's a losing plan. If we lose a player at a position, it's perfectly reasonable to fill that position from the portal.

Yeah, I've struggled with it but I think you got to look at it like it's just another recruit...which it really is.

4 and an occasional 5 star the norm. Leigh was a five star who will be a redshirt sophomore. Do we want to keep getting 5 star linemen, as next year is his time. Behind him we'll have Sadler a high 4 star, and an incoming high 4 star freshman. If we did not have quality options is one thing. But he's bumping someone highly rated who we've already invested in. Leigh has to win the job, but if he doesn't, he's been beat out by a gut from the inside, not the outside.
There are areas a transfer makes sense. Maybe for the first time, OL isn't one of them.

Yeah, I was talking only in generalized terms. Didn't even know we were talking specifics.
That said, we're recruiting oline ratings better than ever. Does concern me some that Tristan hasn't cracked the ones yet.

especially with few blow outs. Miller just came in and took the RT job on his way the freshman AA. Next year he's the leader in the clubhouse, but he'll have to win it in the spring and fall

Unfortunately, College football is turning into to school sponsored Semi-pro football. With the portal player are making "business decision" to leave their schools. Competition is fierce between the players on the roster and new players enrolling in school. The transfer portal players available is now just a different steam of eligible players. We might as well take advantage of it. Chuck Knoll said the biggest mistake he made coaching was not knowing how to say goodbye to the players he won with. He said it set the Steelers back 10 years.
