TNet tabs can take over a gigabyte of memory

A recent Chrome update shows you the memory being used by each tab if you hover your mouse over it at the top of the screen. Most sites I go to, which also have ads, are between 150-400MB or so. TNet starts around 450MB and can go as high as a GB. Got another tab with the Trotter NFL announcement and it's 821MB. ESPN front page is 354MB. No adblocker running.
There's simply no sense in a single news website tab taking that much memory.

No offense to the site owners, but Tnet on desktop has ALWAYS been a system hog for me. I can have several tabs open, facebook, ebay, email, etc and my laptop which runs on wi-fi is just fine, but when I open a tnet tab, the whole system starts to crawl. It's not nearly as noticeable on my android.

none taken, thanks for the feedback. I'll pass it along to our ad management company. If you ever wanted to try ultimate level for a month, you may find it's worth it if you use the site a lot. Thanks!

Other sites with ads don't have this issue, and not everyone can afford your different levels.
Kentucky prediction article tab set a new record (Chrome, btw): 1.2 GB

I hear you and I'll definitely bug them after new year about it.
Is it affecting your PC at all? As you can imagine, I have a ton of tnet tabs open at all times and it's not really an issue for me.
I use chrome, which I believe sleeps tabs you aren't using. If you are using a different browser, let me know.
Thanks and again sorry for the problem.

My laptop's fans are usually quiet even with multiple applications running but when I open TNet they get to spinning. Chrome with nothing but TNet tabs can take up 1700MB of memory or more. I don't really keep tabs open I'm not using, so I'm talking about when I'm actively visiting TNet. As to what you experience, you certainly have the top level privilege that blocks all the ads, which are obviously the only thing causing issues. If that's not true and you are seeing the ads, I'd be very interested to know the differences in our setups.

Ok thanks for the extra info.
None of the Tnet staff including myself have ads removed, so we can monitor them.
I can see how this issue would affect a laptop more. I use one sometimes, but mostly I'm on a desktop.
I'll get up with the adops folks now that they are back in the office and see how we can improve this.
Thanks!

FYI - I just visited 3 other clemson sites and all of them had higher memory usage on their top article than ours did except for rivals but I can't access any of their articles, so not a great comparison.

Out of curiosity, which sites were they? I'll admit I only compared to ESPN, which had significantly less memory usage per tab.

Nah, on TI. They play the YouTube videos of the three Rivals guys talking, there's no X or play/pause button, and if you click on it you get taken to that video on YouTube proper.

B-Meist® New record by a LOT, pic attached: 1.9 GB. Idk if you ever spoke to your ad people but it's going in the wrong direction.
