DJ is an impressive young man. He handles himself very well.

Totally agree. And I find myself saying that about almost all of our players.

May not be the "correct" current thinking, but in this ol' dinosaur's book he is spot on.

ground, NOT just sliding QBs, is an epidemic in college football. In the olden times, that would have been a "piling on" or "late hit" or "unneccessary roughness" penalty, but calling that has obviously gone the way of the Dodo.

If the zebra is going to let you be hit anyway, why slide?

Oct 17, 2022, 6:04 PM

Also, the zebras have a tendency to back the ball up at least a couple yards BEHIND where the guy actually started to slide. They must be mind readers, and say, OK, THIS is where he made up his mind to slide. It's supposed to be where he actually STARTED the slide. Dumb striped Donkaays.

What makes me madder than a cat with rattle tied to his tail, is the way every ACC referees oficiate a Clemson game regardless of who we are playing, or what conference team we are playing, and that is they will call everything that a Clemson players does regardless of how slight or unintentional the foul was, and let the opposing teams get away with the same thing regardless oh how flagrant it appeared...

And when they call a game one way, it makes me wish that I knew where there vehicle was being parked so I could add 5 pounds of sugar with their gasoline, and go back about a week later, and leave them a note telling them why their vehicle gas tank, gas lines, and their engine turned sweet!!! ;) :) :) :)

So what's your opinion of the victory formation? If you think a QB has run for 1st down yardage and slides he's a wimp to you. So I'm trying to understand why that is pansy like to you. Or is 4th down a pass play every time as well?

DJ raises an interesting point...however, it may be specific to him. I like the sliding rule, in college and the pros. However, it doesn't serve every quarterback equally. Trevor Lawrence had (has) very good high end speed but no maneuverability at that speed. If he has the first down, he needed to get out. DJ is a totally different runner. He's not that fast. He has really good vision while running (I won't get into the passing part of the vision thing) and can find space to fall forward without having his head clocked.

Too much running the other night with poor ypg, hurt the team

Oct 17, 2022, 9:52 PM

Not his fault, but about 3 or 4 less runs that are passes instead would have meant a blow out!
That punt, with one and a half minutes left, probably would not have happened if he was able to pass a couple of times.

But doing so more easily allowed the conference bias to take over so that Michigan and Tennessee could jump us. Dabo will not like this comment. Where is all this crap about being conservative coming from, he asked. Oh, I dunno, maybe what we all observed (e.g. - 3rd and 18) didn’t happen.

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

Three things can happen when you pass the ball.

Oct 18, 2022, 5:02 AM [ in reply to Too much running the other night with poor ypg, hurt the team ]

Two of them ain't good. It's caught, that's good if it's caught by our guy. It's not caught, that is a waste of down and it also stops the clock, that ain't good for two reasons when you're up in the game.

It's caught but it ain't our guy who caught it, that's the one we most want to avoid because it not only stops the clock it gives the other team another opportunity to score, either to catch up or go ahead on the scoreboard.

I love to see a completed pass so don't get me wrong. When we're up I love seeing a few yards and a running clock more.

When we got the ball back up 34-14 having scored

Oct 18, 2022, 10:22 AM

on 6 straight possessions, i would've liked to have seen us continue running our regular offense. We ran 3 times up the middle and punted. That drive consumed exactly 2:26 seconds. Any drive that picked up a couple of first downs would've consumed more clock than that, and any points on that drive would've really iced the game.

Running straight downhill is NOT what this time is good at. We don't have an offense that's going to be effective at just lining up and running the ball repeatedly to bleed out the clock. Moving the ball and putting more points on the board is just as much help for a defense as running some clock and punting.

It’s the late and/or improper slides that leave a QB vulnerable…..period.

If not the play, this is the type of play DJ is referring to. It is disgusting, late and properly flagged. But if what Mukaba did was targeting, this is should be a totally different penalty.

https://larrybrownsports.com/college-football/dillon-gabriel-injury-cheap-shot-hit-targeting/604873

watch this play, then watch it slowly. Yes it happens fast, but the QB started his slide a full 4 yards in front of the defender, and he is on the ground by the time the defender fires for the hit.
