Think SC is better Team than LSU cause of QB's & Clowney....
Jan 2, 2013, 2:51 PM
|
|
Don't get hostile with me..and know I'm not taking anything away from our Tiger's big well-deserved victory..
but LSU's weakest link was their QB. If they had had either of SC's QB's LSU would have been a tougher foe...especially if it was Conner who can run & pass....while Clowney is much better than either of LSU's DE's.
Glad we don't have to play either team again.
GoTiGERs...and thanks Clemson Men for standing up & FIGHTING..and winning.

If we hadn't put Thomas on an island with Clowney and gave him some help, that game would have been much different.
Of course, I'm not a coach so my opinion is worthless.

I agree. The big hit by clowney yesterday came from a guard trying to pull and get to clowney. He's way too fast to try to do that.

i believe sc is better at the qb position, but overall LSU is better because of the number of athletes at basically every position and the team speed---my opinion only!!

LSU beat USuCk = LSU better when they played USuCk beat Us = USuCk better when we played We beat LSU = CU Tigers better when played
All this who beat who that beat who crap is just pure speculation. Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with the USuCk victory over a then 8 and 4 Michigan team. They won like they should have.

better than FSU cause.... I'm not trying to be a smart #### but I don't understand how sometimes the speculation goes on and on even after teams face one another on the field of play. Maybe I misunderstood the original post.
Was in the store with my Clemson hat on and some trailer ##### buying some beer on NYD started in with their purposeful talk about how if we played LSU 99 more times we would be 1 for 100 against them. I looked at the guy and said "100 plays... we ran 100 plays against them"... I didn't know the exact number at the time but that #### was tiring after we just beat LSU.

as someone else here said, LSU is a bad matchup for a team that has trouble stopping the run and doesn't have a great offense. That pretty much describes South Carolina.

we had everything in our favor and we blew it........yes clowney is the best player in the country, but we knew that going in.
they out "physicaled" us and out "thugged" us..........we were pushovers vs the gamecocks..........they have a mental edge against us and we're scared........we tense up........we fold under the pressure of playing SCar and Spurrier.
until dabo changes our teams mentality and gets 3-4 deandre mcdaniel/duane coleman/yusef kelly type attitudes on our team nothing's gonna change vs the gamecocks............it's the cold hard truth..........we lack the "I'm going to POINT at you, call you out...then DISLOCATE your shoulder" mentality

We will be more physical from now out. You have to live it and you have to grow up and step through the door. We did that in Atlanta.

lack the experience with a relatively young team that is growing up before our eyes? Saw no fear against LSU. The additional preparation for the Blanks, Readers, Watsons etc... showed a different product. After the LSU game, I would trust that coach V, Coach Morris and Dabo know how to prepare a tough physical team. We are getting there and will have a more experienced, determined and bigger (after another year in the weight room) group of guys. I like who we have returning.

beating LSU was impressive......i'm taking nothing away from that accomplishment, but we've been beaten by 10+ pts 4 straight games by our rivals............and until we change the attitude/mentality we are not beating SCar.
I hope you're right, but I also woulda thought that being 10-1 with sugar bowl on the line.......at home........at night.........with a 3game losing streak vs a 2nd string QB woulda been enough to motivate our team to beat SCar.
got to get rid of the CHOIR BOY mindset and thug it up a little on the field.............the story i read on here about SCar knocking the ball outta one of our players hands (pregame) and NOBODY on our team did anything, but stood and watched while being mocked disgusted me.

Look at the two deep! I'm not using it as an excuse.

Four years ago we handed out 12 schollies. I think we have something like 65 frosh, redshirt frosh and sophs on our roster. I think that bodes well since we seem to have hit on some guys (Reader, Blanks, Watson etc...). Compare what we are losing to some other teams and see how it lines up. All I'm saying is that this is pretty much the same team that we will see next year minus (Willard, Freeman, Ellington, Brown and a few others I can't recall).

LSU is way deeper at every position on defense, the OL, and at RB. I'd take LSU's team over Scar's any day.

the rest of their d-line and defense isn't nearly as talented as LSUs. Seems like Morris learned something from the pressure that SCU put on Boyd back in November.

showed that LSU dominated that game in the same way we dominated LSU when we played them- everywhere but on the scoreboard. SCU had about as many yards as LSU had against us, while LSU had nearly as many yards as we had against LSU.

Here's a little clue for you. Is that Goodman right there in the passing lane? It's a still photo so you can't see the qback and the receiver rolling to that side of the field together.
The previous play went for 7 or 8 yds on the other side of the field. This one would have given them a first down had Goodman not read the play and gotten in the passing lane.
The next play was batted down. Guess who?
Clemson was a well oiled machine producing at least 90% capacity.

I agree.
College football is generally about match-ups and how each team's styles of play align. South Carolina's offensive game plan was to exploit our weak secondary and (at the time) non-existent pass rush. They didn't drop bombs on us, but they were able to do just about whatever they wanted with short-intermediate passes - because our DB's were terrified of getting burned.
Our D matched up well against LSU, because of LSU's philosophy isn't to beat you by methodically passing, rather they try to pound you with their run game. This played to our strength with Shuey in the game and Les Miles/LSU called some horrible play calls.
As far as our offense.... Their D-line would have had 10-12 sacks on 2011 Tajh. He used his feet well, played his asz off, and made some incredible throws.
LSU matches up well against South Carolina because they have a punishing defense, with a strong defensive backfield and incredible pass rush. Essentially, South Carolina can't employ their game against LSU. Furthermore, Clowney is less of an impact against LSU, because he doesn't get use his strongest attribute - rushing the passer.

Take Clowney off of the USuC roster and that's a vastly different team. Take Mingo of LSU's roster and that D is still punishing.
