Reached out to help with any needs they had after the fire. That's awesome! I'm an Atlanta fan for sure now.

I'm glad the organization reached out and helped but if you watch the documentary on Home Depot, you may have a different opinion of him.

I worked at Home Depot for awhile back in the day...people who knew Arthur - and there were quite a lot of them, mostly imports from Georgia who'd actually worked with and met the guy - really admired and respected him.
There were some others, not so noble, who got in after he did (some of them were flat-out sharks, honestly)...but Blank himself is still a guy a LOT of people respect.

I hope that he's changed over the years but tell that to all of the small businesses that he had black wreaths delivered to their front doors as they were going out of business when a home depot moved in.

Didn't say he wasn't a killer. You don't build a billions-a-quarter business without being a cutthroat businessman. And I don't doubt there's blood on his hands. As they say, behind every great fortune, there's usually a great crime. In his case, I have no doubt...several. But that's kind of the point of business. You compete. Somebody loses. It's merciless.
That said, I worked for HD for awhile, and while it isn't what it used to be, it's not - or it wasn't a few years back, anyhow - a bad place to work for, although the discrepancy between what the old-timers made and what the newer employees was making was...severe. They slashed their pay to the bone and the company is now largely being propped up by the originals who got in at the right time, got shares and great paychecks...and are now starting to age out and retire. What's left after that is anybody's guess. My guess it turns into Wal-Mart, just with tools. So goes corporate empires, usually.
The originals had some interesting stories, too...there was one guy who actually had worked in one of the very first Home Depots, one that was still run by Arthur...apparently they'd close the store for the night, and Arthur would be running around on his forklift with a keg on it, pouring beer for all the employees, and Christmas parties from that era are still the stuff of legend. Having seen how the man can drink - as I said, I met him in LA when I went to one of the first Galaxy games at HDC - I believe those stories. That night turned into kind of an impromptu champagne party, and I very much got a very good idea who Arthur Blank was. Can I absolutely see him gleefully crushing the competition? Yup. But he also treated his own people very well. Some of the guys who succeeded him apparently did not share that attitude towards how employees were supposed to be treated, which allegedly created quite a dust-up within the Home Depot empire...how that shook out is still largely a boardroom mystery, but I do know it was bloody.

Make the team?
I'm trying to figure out if I expect him to start on day 1 or by midseason.
