There is no switch

Dec 4, 2022, 7:50 AM

that can be thrown to make a player go from "not ready" to MVP of a conference championship in one week. I'm glad that the opportunity was finally allowed for Cade to get his shot, but the delay was one of the worst coaching messes I've seen.

There's more to the story than "wasn't ready", but I don't know if we'll ever know the truth. For Streeter to say that he has no regrets the switch wasn't made sooner and that he only looks forward is laughable. If true, it means he doesn't recognize and admit mistakes. Either he and/or Dabo need to own this and learn from it.

We'll probably never know and it'll remain the biggest mystery ever in Clemson modern football history. A head scratcher and "what if" situation for sure.

What Streeter really probably meant was that the decision on

who to play was not his to make, ultimately. Dabo is the Head Coach, and calls those shots. So, if Coach Streeter wants to keep his job, which I am pretty sure he does, he is not going to publicly rock the boat by beyotching about things that are beyond his control anyway.

Thank you! I’ve seen so many posts from people saying “trust Dabo”, “you should be our head coach”, and such in response to people pointing this out. It doesn’t just all of sudden turn on for a performance like that.

I am starting to think either our coaches have blind loyalty or there was some type of contract detail in DJ’s NIL deal that involved the coaches too.

I might buy that Cade was not ready for ND, but what about last week. He is conveniently ignoring that Cade was not brought in at all in a game that DJ looked even worse in.

Heard it from a player that said Dabo is “loyal” and that the guys love that about him.

and being in the playoffs. I think most of our current players would agree Dabo went too far with his loyalty this year.

Loyal to whom ? How about his loyal;ty to the rest of the team ? What about his responsibility to give them their best chance to win ?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Then the players must have hated it when…

Dec 4, 2022, 9:01 AM [ in reply to Re: There is no switch ]

Dabo benched Cole for Deshaun, and when he benched Kelly B. for Trevor. Yeah, I bet they really hated beating the coots and playing for national championships.

A lot of people have said that Dabo did his best coaching job last season, considering all the injuries. I’d say this year Dabo did his worst coaching job this season. I’m not buying that Cade Klubnik just finally got game-ready in the last week. Dabo’s quarterback blunder cost Clemson not only a shot at going to the CFP, but actually being COMPETITIVE in it.

The fact that every poster isn’t on here screaming about how Shipley didn’t get enough touches and that cost us the ACCCG shows you even an average QB could have made this offense run the last two years. Addition by subtraction in its purest form.

The coaches lied.***

I love Dabo. He is the best HC we have ever had. I hope he stays until he retires from football. BUT, he messed this QB1/DJU thing up. Only thing I can think is that the Kelly/Trevor switch scarred him when it resulted in Kelly quitting and transferring. I can't think of anything else that would make him sacrifice a win in the rivalry game and a possible playoff run. He just didn't give Cade the same opportunity that he gave Trevor. I'm disappointed because it could have been so much better. I feel for the Seniors.

There is a switch… it’s labeled playing against the worst defense in the conference. We’ve seen Cade play before against competent defenses and look pretty pedestrian (Syracuse, ND). He wasn’t ready for them and the rest of the schedule, but it’s easy to flip the switch against the team that gave up 28 to UVA and lost to GT.

You tell yourself whatever you want to keep up this blind hero worship.

Dabo screwed the pooch and cost his players a shot at a national title.

Hey stupid, we were losing against Syracuse and Cade came back to win the game. Where have you been?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo, is that you?

Dec 4, 2022, 9:17 AM [ in reply to Re: There is no switch ]

What a load of BS.

1. If Klubnik was actually given the chance to do more than hand off against Syracuse we probably win that game by at least two touchdowns.

2. Are you really blaming Klubnik for what happened in the ND game?? If he had started the game it at least would have been a closer game instead of a monumental offensive failure throughout, and maybe our defense wouldn’t have given up from being totally GASSED.

Bottom line - if Dabo had just left DJ on the bench after the Syracuse game, we’d be preparing for the CFP now.

Think what you want but don’t be surprised if we play a half-competent defense in the orange bowl and Cade looks mediocre again.

And what he really feels may be two different things. But I’m sure he likes getting a paycheck so why would he throw his boss under the bus in front of the media?

Like I said earlier this week, when Klubnik got to Clemson in January he was close to being ready day one because of where he came from. I'm still pissed!

Re: There is no switch

Dec 4, 2022, 9:07 AM

Agreed and there is no switch that would have been flipped to make DJ start playing better neither. I think a lot of fans thought "well maybe DJ will be better next game". That's not how it works, it takes time and DJ had his time the entire year last year and he never improved.

When it was obvious at the beginning of this season that DJ had not improved, he should have been pulled right then and not a second later. Best is the standard...BEST is the STANDARD.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To be fair, DJ did improve somewhat

Dec 4, 2022, 11:46 AM

over 2021, but that was mainly because he’s 100% healthy now. He was injured a few games into 2021, and that really hobbled him. But even a 100% healthy DJ just couldn’t read defenses and throw long passes with any consistency. He played very well at Wake Forest. But Syracuse broke him… and he never came back from there. That’s when DJU should have become the backup and CK should have been named starting QB - after the Syracuse game. If that had happened we’d be heading to the playoffs with a chance to actually be competitive.
